Where's the money gonna come from?
State and city officials hail opening of immigrant professional aid office in Detroit | MLive.com:
"DETROIT, MI – A new Detroit office to help skilled, legal immigrants enter the professional workforce is not about finding work for some sets of Detroiters over others, according to city officials.
“We know we have a lot of Detroiters who are unemployed,” said Andre Spivey, a District 4 City Councilman who will co-chair a committee overseeing the new office along with Councilwoman Raquel Castaneda-Lopez of District 6.
“This is not an ‘or,’ it’s an ‘and.’”
The non-profit Upwardly Global is opening the office in a space donated by Michigan State University at its 3408 Woodward Ave. site.
.....It will have a particular focus on engineers, which have been in high demand and short supply, according to Bing Goei, the director of the Michigan Office for New Americans, which was launched by Gov. Rick Snyder in January."

Muskegon City Commission: Street tax, civil service ballot measures on this week's agenda | MLive.com: "MUSKEGON, MI -- A local streets tax and a change to the city's employee promotion policy could be on the November ballot depending on Muskegon City Commission action this week.
City officials are recommending that a 4-mill tax to fund street improvements be put before voters.
That's lower than the 5 mills city officials have been discussing in meeting with local citizens.
......The street tax would raise an estimated $2 million per year.
The ballot measure would be in the form of an amendment to the city charter raising the current 10-mill limit on tax levies to 14 mills "to be used for municipal purposes, including but not limited to road maintenance and repair."

This writer is delusional------Grading the Michigan Legislature: Failed on roads, but not on Detroit

Grading the Michigan Legislature: Failed on roads, but not on Detroit | Detroit Free Press | freep.com:
"Detroit: A

It’d be hard to overstate the sheer shock value of the debate and voting over the grand bargain legislation that will send nearly $200 million to help Detroit out of bankruptcy and shore up its underfunded pensions.
Leadership in both the House and Senate worked brilliantly to overcome fears of voter backlash and the provincialism that had created two Michigans — Detroit and everyone else. The overwhelming passage of the bills has implications, not just for the grand bargain, but for the prospect of a more cooperative Detroit-Lansing relationship going forward.
Detroit will need even more support to get back on its feet after the bankruptcy. The goal, a thriving urban locus in southeast Michigan, will require a series of investments to counter both the disinvestment that has characterized the city’s relationship with the state and the prolonged decay that has brought the city so low. Legislators passed the grand bargain saying they were proud to “stand with Detroit” in its hour of most dire need.
They’ll need to stay standing, even as the city emerges to a place where rebirth is really on the agenda — and possible."

"It has become a daily frightening occurrence, hearing politicians, commentators, pundits and stunned Americans say, “That’s outrageous!” “He can’t do that!” “No way!” “It’s against federal law!” “They have no legal authority to force us to do that!” These comments are in response to the daily unprecedented out-of-control tyranny handed down by Obama and his operatives. Bad News: It Could Take A Decade to Get to the Bottom of "Lost" IRS Emails - Katie Pavlich
If you're looking for answers about what happened to those "lost" IRS emails, you better buckle in for the long haul.As investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson points out the EPA destroyed emails back in the 1990s and now thirteen years after a lawsuit, there is closure in the case but the emails are still gone.

According to an Associated Press report, a federal judge has held the EPA in contempt for destroying computer files sought after by a conservative group: Landmark Legal Foundation.

It’s taken more than 13 years.

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth had ordered the EPA on Jan. 19, 2001, at the end of the Clinton administration, to preserve all documents relevant to a Freedom of Information Act request by Landmark regarding the federal agency’s contact with outside groups. That same day, EPA Administrator Carol Browner asked a technician to delete her computer files. Browner later testified that she was unaware of the court order and simply wanted to remove some games from her work computer.

According to AP, EPA officials later admitted wiping clean the computer files from Browner and other top staff despite Lamberth’s order.

In finding the EPA in contempt this week, Judge Lamberth ordered the agency to pay Landmark’s legal fees. That means that ultimately taxpayers foot the bill for the EPA’s misconduct.

The UN is gonna get water to Detroit?!!!--------Nearly Half Of Detroit Water Customers Can’t Pay Their Bill

Nearly Half Of Detroit Water Customers Can’t Pay Their Bill « CBS Detroit:
DETROIT (WWJ) – It’s a basic human right: water.
But could the United Nations soon help the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department provide the service to struggling customers?
Water department spokeswoman Curtrise Garner says it’s a possibility — but for now, the water bills must be paid.
“We do have programs that do help those that are just totally in need; can’t afford it — but we also know that there are also people who can’t afford it would can not pay and we know this because, once we shut water off, the next day they are in paying the bill in full. So we do know that that has become a habit as well,” said Garner.
“At the DWAS Department — it’s not our goal to shut off water. We want people’s water on, just like they do; but you do have to pay for your water…That’s the bottom line.”
Garner said the reality is that nearly half of Detroit Water and Sewerage customers can’t pay their bills; and that has led activists to lobby the UN to step up and take action.

The Internal Revenue Service scandal has reached a fever pitch and the Middle East is on fire, but that doesn’t stop the two top executives who run the country from taking the day off.
President Obama golfed Saturday at Fort Belvoir, for what veteran White House reporter Keth Koffler said was Obama’s 21st round this year and the 178th since taking office.
Meanwhile, Vice President Joe Biden hosted his annual media event at his U.S. Naval Observatory residence. Biden’s family and reporters with their families attended, with part of the fun involving super soaker water guns, according to Business Insider.
Much fun was had by all, as evidenced by these photos posted on Twitter. But not all the responses were funny:
