Detroit Public Schools Gave 8 of 10 Teachers Highest Rating Despite Being Nation's Worst Urban ... [Michigan Capitol Confidential]:
79 percent of DPS teachers rated as 'highly effective' which is twice the state average
When Gov. Rick Snyder recently proposed creating a new school district organization to serve Detroit schoolchildren, he cited a “lack of educational success” and “failing academics” and pointed out that Detroit is the “nation’s lowest performing urban school area.”
However, the Detroit Public School district's most recent evaluations of its own teachers paint a picture of success in 2013-14.
The district gave 8 out of 10 teachers the highest evaluation possible — “highly effective.”
....The percentage of teachers rated highly effective by DPS was twice the state average of 38 percent in 2013-14, the latest year statewide data is available.

Not enough money? Baltimore got $1.8 billion from Obama Stimulus

Blog: Not enough money? Baltimore got $1.8 billion from Obama Stimulus
Last Tuesday, President Obama blamed the GOP-controlled Congress for its failure to fund the “massive investment in urban communities” that could “make a difference.”
Well, how does $1.8 billion for the 622,000 people of Baltimore sound?
Pretty massive – actually, just about $2900 for every man, woman, child, and baby of the entire City of Baltimore.
But that’s the total amount of Obama Stimulus money sent to Charm City, according to an analysis by The Free Beacon:
The city of Baltimore received over $1.8 billion from President Barack Obama’s stimulus law, including $467.1 million to invest in education and $26.5 million for crime prevention.
Moreover, that spending was concentrated in Baltimore’s inner-city areas:
According to Recovery.gov, one of Baltimore’s central ZIP codes, 21201, received the most stimulus funding in the city, a total of$837,955,866. The amount included funding for 276 awards, and the website reports that the spending had created 290 jobs in the fourth quarter in 2013.
Of this amount, $467.1 million went to education; $206.1 million to the environment; $24 million to “family”; $16.1 million to infrastructure; $15.2 million to transportation; $11.9 million to housing; and $3.1 million to job training.
ZIP code 21202 received $425,170,937, including a $136 million grant to “improve teaching and learning for students most at risk of failing to meet State academic achievement standards.”
Twenty-nine other ZIP codes listed in Baltimore city received a total of $568,641,684.
But there is never enough money to meet liberals’ demands.
And never enough money to solve urban problems rooted in fatherlessness, lack of job skills, horrendous (yet costly) public education, and the perception that entry-level wages are beneath the dignity of the chronically unemployed.

The liberal media's ‘extremist’ voters

The Democratic Party’s ‘extremist’ voters « Hot Air:
"...For example, the notion that the GOP primary electorate is composed of unrepresentative extremists is undone by this cycle’s polling.
A recent NBC/Wall Street journal survey is not the first to discover that the Republican electorate is now far more concerned with national security and terrorism than they are about the economy.
A full 27 percent described national security as their top priority for the federal government. “That’s followed by the deficit and government spending (24 percent), job creation and economic growth (21 percent) and religious and moral values (12 percent),” NBC News reported.
According to a January Pew Research Center survey, the GOP’s top priorities track reasonably well with the public’s top priorities."
...By contrast, NBC/WSJ became the latest poll to find Democratic voters are primarily concerned with domestic issues starting with the economy and job growth/creation, but also including health care (namely, preserving the Affordable Care Act), and climate change.
Only 13 percent of Democratic voters believe terrorism and national security should be the federal government’s top priority.

Alan Dershowitz: Charges Against Baltimore Police Officers Are About ‘Crowd Control,’ Not Justice | Video | TheBlaze.com:

"He called the charges “outrageous and irresponsible,” especially the second degree murder count filed against the van’s driver under a legal principle known as “depraved heart.”

“The decision to file charges was made not based on considerations of justice, but on considerations of crowd control,” Dershowitz said Saturday."

Al Sharpton Agrees with Obama Calls for Unconstitutional Nationalized Police Force! - Eagle Rising

Al Sharpton Agrees with Obama Calls for Unconstitutional Nationalized Police Force! - Eagle Rising:

"Sadly, that is a sore misrepresentation. We don't have a national crisis. Apparently, we have a provocateur crisis, of which Mr. Sharpton is a part. The solution for that is not a national takeover of police, but an indictment, arrest, trial and sentencing of such provocateurs. And there is not doubt in my mind that the mastermind behind this provocation is one Barack Hussein Obama.

In March of this year, Barack Obama said, "We have a great opportunity … to really transform how we think about community law enforcement relations."

"We need to seize that opportunity … this is something that I'm going to stay very focused on in the months to come," he added."

25 Years Of Predicting The Global Warming 'Tipping Point'

25 Years Of Predicting The Global Warming 'Tipping Point' | The Daily Caller:
For decades now, those concerned about global warming have been predicting the so-called “tipping point” — the point beyond which it’ll be too late to stave off catastrophic global warming.
It seems like every year the “tipping point” is close to being reached, and that the world must get rid of fossil fuels to save the planet.

That is, until we’ve passed that deadline and the next such “tipping point” is predicted.
Would you believe it was eight years ago today that the United Nationspredicted we only had “as little as eight years left to avoid a dangerous global average rise of 2C or more.”

This failed prediction, however, has not stopped the U.N. from issuing more apocalyptic predictions since.
To celebrate more than two decades of dire predictions, The Daily Caller News Foundation presents this list of some of the “greatest” predictions made by scientists, activists and politicians — most of which we’ve now passed.
1. 2015 is the ‘last effective opportunity’ to stop catastrophic warming
World leaders meeting at the Vatican last week issued a statement saying that 2015 was the “last effective opportunity to negotiate arrangements that keep human-induced warming below 2-degrees [Celsius].”
Pope Francis wants to weigh in on global warming, and is expected to issue an encyclical saying basically the same thing. Francis will likely reiterate that 2015 is the last chance to stop massive warming.
But what he should really say is that the U.N. conference this year is the “last” chance to cut a deal to stem global warming… since last year when the U.N. said basically the same thing about 2014’s climate summit.

2. France’s foreign minister said we only have “500 days” to stop “climate chaos”
When Laurent Fabius met with Secretary of State John Kerry on May 13, 2014 to talk about world issues he said “we have 500 days to avoid climate chaos.”
Ironically at the time of Fabius’ comments, the U.N. had scheduled a climate summit to meet in Paris in December 2015 — some 565 days after his remarks. Looks like the U.N. is 65 days too late to save the world.
9. The “tipping point” warning first started in 1989
In the late 1980s the U.N. was already claiming the world had only a decade to solve global warming or face the consequences.
The San Jose Mercury News reported on June 30, 1989 that a “senior environmental official at the United Nations, Noel Brown, says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if global warming is not reversed by the year 2000.”
That prediction didn’t come true 15 years ago, and the U.N. is sounding the same alarm today.

Frightening Future of War: "Inescapable Smart Bullets, Biometric Data and Armed Drones with Facial Recognition"

Frightening Future of War: "Inescapable Smart Bullets, Biometric Data and Armed Drones with Facial Recognition":
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is arguably one of the most terrifying limbs of the US Government.
Every week they announce progress on some outlandish new weapon.
Though surely they want enemies to be terrified, the technology should not be taken lightly.
This time, they say they are in the late stages of developing bullets you can’t dodge — ‘smart bullets’ that will hit a target even if its aim is off.
These smart bullets are .50 caliber rounds equipped with optical sensors.
...“True to DARPA’s mission, EXACTO has demonstrated what was once thought impossible: the continuous guidance of a small-caliber bullet to target,” said DARPA’s program manager Jerome Dunn.
...“This live-fire demonstration from a standard rifle showed that EXACTO is able to hit moving and evading targets with extreme accuracy at sniper ranges unachievable with traditional rounds.
Fitting EXACTO’s guidance capabilities into a small .50-caliber size is a major breakthrough and opens the door to what could be possible in future guided projectiles across all calibers,” Dunn continued.
Here is an animation of how the rounds work.

Hillary Clinton Refuses Benghazi Committee Request to Testify Twice | TheBlaze.com:

"But Clinton lawyer David Kendall told Gowdy that she would not appear twice.
“Respectfully, there is no basis, logic, or precedent for such an unusual request,” he wrote. “The secretary is fully prepared to stay for the duration of the committee’s questions on the day she appears.”

“On such day, she will stay as long as necessary to answer the committee’s questions, but will not prolong the committee’s efforts further by appearing on two separate occasions when one will suffice,” Kendall wrote.
Gowdy told Clinton’s camp that two hearings are needed to first ensure the public record is complete,"

Meet the Vagina Voters

Meet the Vagina Voters - Reason.com:
Have you ever read a more squirm-inducing sentence than that?
It appeared in a pro-Hillary piece in Dame magazine, written by a person with a vagina who intends to vote for Clinton because she also has a vagina.
Let's leave aside the unfortunate image conjured up by that sentence ("You can hold a pencil with that thing?!")
The bigger problem with such unabashed declarations of "vagina voting" is that they confirm the descent of feminism into the cesspool of identity politics, even biologism, and its abandonment of the idea that women should be valued more for their minds than their anatomy.
Kate Harding, the vagina voter in question, isn't only going to vote with her vag—she's also going to tell everyone about it.
"I intend to vote with my vagina.
Unapologetically.
Enthusiastically...And I intend to talk about it," she wrote in Dame.
She thinks Hillary would be a great president because she "knows what it's like to menstruate, be pregnant, [and] give birth..."

Gov. Snyder redefining the word "bailout"----Detroit Education Overhaul Would Cost Other Schools $50 Per Student

Detroit Education Overhaul Would Cost Other Schools $50 Per Student [Michigan Capitol Confidential]:
"Gov. Rick Snyder says his vision of new Detroit public school system does not represent a bailout because it doesn’t ask for more taxpayer dollars.
But one study says that school districts around the state will have to chip in $50 per pupil, which some superintendents aren’t happy about.
Snyder has proposed creating a new “Detroit Education District” to operate all public schools in the city.
Alongside of this entity, the current Detroit school district would be retained in a purely administrative role solely for the purpose of paying off the massive debt it has accumulated.
Money to service the debt would come from $72 million in annual city property tax millage revenue the district now collects.
Since that money would no longer be available to operate the schools, the state would have to pick up the difference.
The governor says this would not be a bailout because no extra taxpayer dollars would be requested.
However, the extra funding must come from somewhere, and apparently that means the state's other 544 school districts."

"SO AFTER I TWEETED THEM, NPR CORRECTED THE HEADLINE IN THIS AWFUL HIT PIECE ON TEXAS GOV. ABBOTT, BUT IT’S STILL WRONG.
As this WaPo article — from last week — explains, Abbott send the State Guard (not the Texas National Guard, as the NRP story originally claimed) to observe (not “stave off,” as the NPR article still wrongly claims) federal military maneuvers (not a “takeover” as the NPR article still wrongly claims).
The WaPo story also explains why, for safety reasons, it’s a good idea for state officials to know about these exervises.
Compare the treatment by WaPo — hardly an Abbott-friendly organ — with the NPR piece by Wade Goodwyn, which seems designed to produce agitprop headlines for Dems to share with each other over social media.
Now note which one is supported by your tax dollars.
