Study: Wind Farms Even More Expensive And Pointless Than You Thought

Study: Wind Farms Even More Expensive And Pointless Than You Thought - Breitbart:

The cost of wind energy is significantly more expensive than its advocates pretend, a new US study has found.

...But when you take into account the true costs of wind, it’s around 48 per cent more expensive than the industry’s official estimates – according to new research conducted by Utah State University.
“In this study, we refer to the ‘true cost’ of wind as the price tag consumers and society as a whole pay both to purchase wind-generated electricity and to subsidize the wind energy industry through taxes and government debt,” said Ryan Yonk Ph.D., one of the report’s authors and a founder of Strata Policy. “After examining all of these cost factors and carefully reviewing existing cost estimates, we were able to better understand how much higher the cost is for Americans.”
The peer-reviewed report accounted for the following factors:
  • The federal Production Tax Credit (PTC), a crucial subsidy for wind producers, has distorted the energy market by artificially lowering the cost of expensive technologies and directing taxpayer money to the wind industry.
  • States have enacted Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) that require utilities to purchase electricity produced from renewable sources, which drives up the cost of electricity for consumers.
  • Because wind resources are often located far from existing transmission lines, expanding the grid is expensive, and the costs are passed on to taxpayers and consumers.
  • Conventional generators must be kept on call as backup to meet demand when wind is unable to do so, driving up the cost of electricity for consumers.
“Innovation is a wonderful thing and renewable energy is no exception. Wind power has experienced tremendous growth since the 1990’s, but it has largely been a response to generous federal subsidies,” Yonk stated.
Among the factors wind advocates fail to acknowledge, the report shows, is the “opportunity cost” of the massive subsidies which taxpayers are forced to provide in order to persuade producers to indulge in this otherwise grotesquely inefficient and largely pointless form of power generation.
...Hence the observation of serial wind energy “investor” Warren Buffett, who says: “We get a tax credit if we build a lot of wind farms. That’s the only reason to build them. They don’t make sense without the tax credit...”

Tipping Point

By Tammy Derouin

As I feared, this year’s July 4th celebration was difficult.  Last year I couldn’t shake a gut-wrenching feeling that life was about to drastically change.  I remember holding back tears as I watched the firework display and wondered how many more years we would celebrate our independence.

The Declaration of Independence clearly describes tyranny, the reasons the colonists severed ties with an oppressive monarch.  If you haven’t read it lately, it’s worth revisiting.  The Revolutionary War was necessary to secure our independence.  Subsequent wars and acts of aggression against the American people would continue throughout our history.  Such encroachments were once confronted and challenged in our never ending battle to remain free and independent.  Our enemies were defeated so that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness would continue.

Recent events, such as the hijacking of our press, accepting lies rather than demanding truth, the government’s desire to play “musical responsibilities” among the branches as they disregard the law of the land and placing individuals with less than honorable ambitions into the sacred offices of our government, are but a few prime examples of the continuous attempts by our enemies, foreign, domestic and government sympathizers, to chip away at our foundation.

Their relentless attacks and our inability to see beyond the trappings of political correctness, have paved the path for the fundamental transformation of the American people and our country. We’ve allowed our enemy to fester and grow without care or concern.  We have failed to protect our freedoms.

The difficulty I had this year with the July 4th celebration...

Donald Trump Doubles Down on Controversial Immigration Comments in Searing Statement | TheBlaze.com

Donald Trump Doubles Down on Controversial Immigration Comments in Searing Statement | TheBlaze.com:

"In a Monday statement, Trump doubled down on his comments, saying he respects the people of Mexico, but reaffirmed his position that immigrants are bringing crime with them. Trump also highlighted the recent killing of a San Fransisco woman allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant deported five times.

“The Mexican Government is forcing their most unwanted people into the United States. They are, in many cases, criminals, drug dealers, rapists, etc. This was evident just this week when, as an example, a young woman in San Francisco was viciously killed by a 5 time deported Mexican with a long criminal record, who was forced back into the United States because they didn’t want him in Mexico,” he said. “This is merely one of thousands of similar incidents throughout the United States.”

5 Things to Know About the Iran Deal

5 Things to Know About the Iran Deal - Hit & Run : Reason.com:

  • These talks have been going on since 2013—the issue is decades old.
  • It's supposed to be a multilateral deal, but it's really about Iran and the U.S.
  • Once negotiators agree to something, it has to be approved by the different countries' domestic processes.
  • Critics say Obama weakened the U.S. position in negotiations. No, the Iraq war did that.
  • Iran doesn't recognize the state of Israel, but Israel isn't the only country in the region worried about a deal.

For different reasons, Iran and the rest of the world look to the U.S. to approve Iran's nuclear program—believing it will monitor any program it "permits."
It's an inappropriate role for the U.S., one that has the perverse effect of encouraging nuclear proliferation while discouraging engagement over non-proliferation.

Obama Administration Finds New Way to Subsidize Solar Energy | TheBlaze.com

Obama Administration Finds New Way to Subsidize Solar Energy | TheBlaze.com:

"The Obama administration’s first term was filled with green energy embarrassments, notably the $500 million Energy Department loan to the California-based, solar-energy company, Solyndra. The department also made news for a $43 million loan to Massachusetts-based green energy firm Beacon Power. A Heritage Foundation review found 19 green energy firms – including wind, battery and electric car companies – that went bankrupt while others that had financial difficulties after federal government loans.

Still, the White House, in its announcement, asserted the executive actions and private investments will help make solar become a success."

Americans With Retirement Accounts Beware: If Our Government Does What China Just Did You'll Be Wiped Out

Americans With Retirement Accounts Beware: If Our Government Does What China Just Did You'll Be Wiped Out:
We’ve previously warned that elements within the U.S. government have been feverishly working to take control of all retirement assets in America.
The reasoning, of course, is that the government can manage your personal finances better than you can.
They’ve already begun plans to have workers invest their earnings directly into government-managed funds, but at some point, should we get into trouble, they may look to seize those assets outright and put them under central control.
Like the idea of socialized, centrally-managed health care, this sounds like an impossibility in the Land of the Free.
However, it’s already been established, with passage of Obamacare as clear evidence, that should they want to do this, they will.
It’s a danger to be sure, but perhaps not as dangerous as what is happening in China right now.
While Chinese stock markets are in the midst of a massive collapse, the Chinese have tried just about everything to halt the crash that has so far vaporized about 25% of investor wealth in under a month.
Zero Hedge asks:
What do you do when two policy rate cuts, $19 billion in committed support from a hastily contrived broker consortium, and a promise of central bank funding for the expansion of margin lending all fail to quell extreme volatility in a collapsing equity market?
The answer as far as the Peoples’ Republic of China is concerned, is to simply ban people from selling.
Yes, you read that right, as over bloated Chinese stocks disintegrate before our eyes, the Chinese government has contacted their retirement fund brokers and in no uncertain terms told them that they are not allowed to sell a single share of stock.
They can buy all they want, but selling is strictly prohibited, leaving millions of pensioners stuck just watching their retirement accounts being decimated before their eyes.
Well, you can simply ban selling, which is apparently the next step for China.
Read it all and prepare!

Fooling ourselves: Everything is going as (they) planned

Fooling ourselves: Everything is going as (they) planned - Alicia Colon
A faux email recently made the rounds alleging a false attribution but it illustrates perfectly what I feel is America's greatest problem-ignorance.
"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.
It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. "
In 2009, I wrote a column for the Irish American USA newspaper titled 'Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Columnist?"
In the article I quoted from former FBI agent Dr. Cleon Skousen's book The Naked Communist and listed a few of the 45 goals he claimed were part of the Communist Manifesto.
I did not include number 17---
"Get control of the schools.
Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda.
Soften the curriculum.
Get control of teachers' associations.
Put the party line in textbooks."
Is that where Common Core originated?...

Greece’s IMF Collapse Shows America what Default Looks Like

Greece’s IMF Collapse Shows America what Default Looks Like | Somewhat Reasonable:
"On June 30th, Greece became the first nation in the European Union to default on payments to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Greece, which has been struggling with financial difficulties for some time, refused debt restructuring and austerity efforts, resulting in the extreme measure that has impacted financial markets across the globe.

Greek national debt totals $358 billion, of which $273 billion is owed to various international bailout funds, including the IMF.
...Americans can learn from the Greek default. The United States faces an $18 trillion national debt and a federal budget deficit of $439 billion, brought on by unprecedented government spending.
As global financial experts struggle to pinpoint the exact genesis of Greece’s troubles, it’s clear excessive borrowing and unsustainable spending habits are to blame.
The United States, with a debt to gross domestic product ratio of 71 percent, may have time before it faces a Greek-style economic collapse, but it’s certainly repeating Greece’s financial mistakes. Greek debt levels are at around 177 percent of their national GDP, but just 25 years ago, they were closer to the same levels as the United States..."

Why Winning the Powerball Jackpot Just Got a Little Harder

Why Winning the Powerball Jackpot Just Got a Little Harder | TIME:
"The catch?
Jackpots as low as $4
Your dreams of hitting it big on the lottery just got worse: from 1 in 175,223,510 to 1 in 292,201,338, to be precise.
What’s worse for lottery aficionados?
Jackpots will pay out far smaller sums than the record $590.5 million in 2013.
In fact, it’s more likely—a 1 in 92 chance—that you’ll win just $4.
The New York State Gaming Commission, which oversees the Multi-State Lottery Association, decided Monday to change rules to make the lottery more self-supporting.
The portion of money being allocated to jackpots will go form 68% of the Gaming Commission’s total budget to 64%.
The Gaming Commission plans on setting these new odds by increasing the numbers to choose from in the first set from 59 to 69 and decreasing the numbers to choose from in the second set from 35 to 26.
(Playing the Powerball requires a person to choose five numbers from the first set and one number from the second set.)"

TaxProf Blog: 50-State Fiscal Condition Ranking

TaxProf Blog: 50-State Fiscal Condition Ranking:
"A closer analysis of the individual metrics behind the ranking shows how each state’s fiscal condition should be assessed.
Notably, nearly all states have unfunded pension liabilities that are large relative to state personal income, indicating that all states need to take a closer look at their unfunded pensions, which represent a significant portion of each state’s economy.
Another financial crisis could mean serious trouble for many states that are otherwise fiscally stable."

CDC Official Reportedly Calls Obama a ‘Marxist’ and the ‘Worst President We’ve Ever Had’ | TheBlaze.com:

"The emails were written amid the surge of illegal immigrants at America’s southern border last year, and were uncovered amid an investigation into the CDC’s usage of an Emergency Operations Center, something Judicial Watch describes as “a major and costly operation that can stick American taxpayers with a huge tab.”

Finally, others are figuring it out!
