All branches of government require office holders to pledge oaths and/or commitments to upholding the U.S. Constitution. FBI director James Comey refused to comment on the ongoing investigation into the use of Hillary Clinton's private email server. Comey refused to comment at a Capitol Hill hearing:
"Mr. Chairman, I respectfully say that’s one I’m not going to comment on. As you know, the FBI is working on a referral given to us by inspectors general in connection with former Secretary Clinton’s use of her private email server. As you also know about the FBI, we don’t talk about our investigations while we’re doing them. This is one I’m following very closely and get briefed on regularly. I’m confident we have the people and the resources to do it in the way I believe we do all our work, which is promptly, professionally, independently. But I don’t want to do anything that would compromise my ability to do it that way by commenting beyond that," said Comey.
"Thank you Mr. Chairman, I hope you’ll understand why I don’t think it’s appropriate to answer that. I want to preserve my ability to oversee this investigation in a way that is both in reality independent and fair, and is perceived that way. I believe the Bureau is three things: we are competent, we are independent, and we’re honest, and I want to make sure the American people have confidence that that’s the way we are doing our business, and if I start answering questions like yours which is a reasonable question, I worry that I could infringe upon that."

Secret Service officers found asleep on job; watchdog to warn of overworked staff - The Washington Post:
A federal watchdog on Thursday sent the U.S. Secret Service a formal warning that its overworking of employees is jeopardizing security — citing the discovery that two Secret Service officers were asleep at their posts, according to three government officials familiar with the findings.
The inspector general who oversees the Secret Service issued a management alert, a formal designation that indicates investigators have found a problem so urgent or sweeping that it requires swift attention from senior management.

Spontaneous demonstration, out of control, et cetera, of the video. I think that's where the emphasis ought to be.

She had her way, when she lowered her voice, and talked about the sleepless nights, it was a gripping performance, which is the way I would put it so I can remain neutral on this. But showing that she really cared, et cetera or at least giving that impression. And that's what's going to be shown.

News from The Associated Press:
CHICAGO (AP) -- Marijuana use among U.S. adults doubled over a decade, rising to almost 10 percent or more than 22 million mostly recreational users, government surveys show.
The trend reflects a cultural shift and increasingly permissive views about the drug, the researchers say, noting that other studies have shown increasing numbers of adults think marijuana should be legalized. Recreational use is now permitted in four states.
Almost 1 in 3 users had signs of marijuana dependence or abuse, a slight decline from a decade ago.
The results come from a comparison of health surveys from 2001-02 and 2012-13 sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Almost 80,000 adults aged 18 and older participated in face-to-face interviews about various health-related behaviors. Results were published Wednesday in the journal JAMA Psychiatry

Search for 'alien megastructure' on distant star underway:
Scientists have begun pointing a cluster of radio dishes at a mysterious star that some astronomers believe could harbor an "alien megastructure."
The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) focused the Allen Telescope Array located in Northern California on star KIC 8462852 on Friday. SETI is in the process of switching out equipment to see if "more sensitive receivers" can pick up a signal they've missed so far, according to Seth Shostak , a senior astronomer at the SETI Institute .
"The distance of this system is 1400-light-years away, so if there are signals we may not be able to pick them up because they are so weak," Shostak told USA TODAY Network.
The star is just one of 160,000 stars that NASA's Kepler Space Telescope has spotted since 2009, though its unusual light pattern has captured the attention of many.

FBI Admits US Can't Vet All Syrian Refugees For Terror Ties | The Daily Caller:
FBI director James Comey said during a House Committee on Homeland Security hearing on Wednesday that the federal government does not have the ability to conduct thorough background checks on all of the 10,000 Syrian refugees that the Obama administration says will be allowed to come to the U.S.
“We can only query against that which we have collected,” Comey said in response to a line of questioning from Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson .
“And so if someone has never made a ripple in the pond in Syria in a way that would get their identity or their interest reflected in our database, we can query our database until the cows come home, but there will be nothing show up because we have no record of them.”
More than 4 million Syrians have fled their homeland amid a brutal civil war. But many Middle Eastern countries have refused to accept refugees, putting the burden on Europe and the West. Under pressure to assist, President Obama approved a proposal to allow at least 10,000 refugees to settle. According to The New York Times, just over 1,800 have come to the U.S. so far.
Analysts offer little consensus on Apple Watch sales - CNET
Analysts offer little consensus on Apple Watch sales - CNET:
How many Apple Watches sold last quarter? Apple won't say, but that hasn't stopped analysts from speculating.
A collection of 17 analysts offered Fortune Magazine their predictions for Apple Watch sales last quarter. The numbers varied from a low of 2.5 million to a high of 6 million.
The forecast provides a glimpse into the demand for the Apple Watch, a high profile product in the burgeoning category of wearable devices. Unlike the iPhone or iPad, Apple doesn't break out how many watches it has sold. This has led to a guessing game of sorts by analysts and investors. The Apple Watch, which competes against other wearable tech products and luxury goods, commands a premium price over rival smartwatches.
Despite some of the more bearish estimates, the Apple Watch seems to be doing relatively well, according to research firm IDC. In its latest quarterly report on wearables, IDC gave Apple's smartwatch the No. 2 position, just behind market leader Fitbit. Over the second quarter, Apple shipped 3.6 million watches, said IDC, grabbing 20 percent of the wearables market. Fitbit shipped 4.4 million wearable devices.

Disney's marketing campaign for the J.J. Abrams film has kicked into high gear in the world's second-largest movie market.
The Galactic Empire has landed in the Middle Kingdom.
As the final full trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens rolled out online early this week, Disney unleashed its marketing blitz in China for the J.J. Abrams film on the country's iconic Great Wall.
Creating a world-class selfie opportunity for the legions of Chinese fans who turned up for the event, 500 Stormtrooper figures were arranged in marching formation on the steps leading up to one of the Wall's guard towers. Disney also handed out hundreds of red and blue light sabers and other merchandise.
While Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to open Dec. 18 in the U.S. and other international territories, Disney doesn't have a release date yet for the film in China, the world's second-biggest but most heavily protected major movie market.

The Edison Bulb
By Tammy Derouin
The one question which continually comes back to me is,
why? Why would the President of the
United States want to destroy the United States? Every week I hear myself asking the same
question; but it’s simply a moment of frustration. I accepted the answer a long time ago. Once I accepted the reason, my focus changed.
In every situation, once you identify the problem, you can
begin to focus on the solution. Once the
Edison bulb comes to light, your focus changes.
It is no longer why but how can you correct or repair the situation? Of course, if you continue to deny the
problem or blindly follow the hype behind the new and so called improved light
bulb, without checking into the facts for yourself, all the light it produces
will only continue to keep you in the dark.
I’ve observed, with much outraged and disbelief, the actions
of the executive. The appalling but no
longer shocking conclusion I have come to, is that we no longer have a president;
therefore, I refuse to call Barack Hussein Obama the president of the United
States. At best, he is an executive but his actions
scream dictator. At worst, well his term
isn’t over yet, is it?
Through the inaction of our Congress and our judicial system
we have witnessed the fundamental transformation of America, as promised
through hope and change. Can you still
hear the people foolishly applauding an unknown candidate whose accomplishments
were dismal? After years of ignoring the
American people and refusing to protect our interests at home and abroad as
well as weakening our defenses at the personal and national level, you can
still hear people foolishly applauding the actions of an individual who wishes
to destroy our nation...

Unstoppable 100-year-old works 6 days a week:
BUFFALO, N.Y -- Felimina Rotundo works six days a week washing clothes at a local Laundromat, and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon, even at the age of 100.
Rotundo washes clothes and handles dry cleaning at the College Laundry Shoppe on Main Street in Buffalo.
She works from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, and wouldn’t change a thing about it. She says that she likes being out and working because it “gives her something to do.”
Rotundo said that she hasn’t considered retirement. She says she doesn't think that "old people" should be sitting idle, and doing nothing, because that is a waste of time.
So when would be an acceptable age to retire? According to her 75 would be a good age to retire, but only if health is an issue.

Man Killed Kin For Blowing Nose At Dinner Table | The Smoking Gun:
OCTOBER 19--A Minnesota man arrested for bludgeoning his grandmother to death with a hammer told police that he attacked the 84-year-old victim because she blew her nose at the dinner table, according to a criminal complaint.
Timothy Robert Steele, 35, also told investigators that he was angry with Agnes Wagner-Steele because she had “caused a hole in one of [his] jackets.”
Steele, pictured above, was charged today with second-degree murder in connection with the October 15 slaying at a residence in Farmington, a city outside Minneapolis.
Responding to an emergency call placed by Steele’s mother (who is the victim’s daughter), cops found Steele sitting on a living room couch late Friday evening. Asked what was going on, a “calm and collected” Steele reportedly told cops, “I killed my grandmother.”
