‘Twas the Night before Halloween
By Tammy Derouin
Although I was angry, I can’t say I was not surprised. I heard the news regarding the decision by
the Department of Party Favor Justice, that it was ending its investigation
into the IRS Targeting Scandal. No
charges would be brought against Lois Lerner or anyone else for that matter.
Why should charges be brought against anyone? There was absolutely no evidence of any
wrongdoing. I mean, we are talking about
the most transparent administration in the history of the world! What do we really have as proof? Evidence was destroyed and lies, when told
often enough, become the truth. And
never mind the fact that a corrupt administration just investigated itself.
When this little bit of unsurprising, yet blood boiling news
came out, I was a little busy drying the eyes of my girls. After all, they had just told me about their
upcoming Socialist Halloween. The Civics
lesson continues.
As Halloween approached and they knew they would be going
away, the excitement diminished. I
thought everyone was supposed to be happy when you spread the wealth around or in
this case, candy. The answer is no and
the youngest, most inexperienced at life around us, know it and get it.
To gain control, be it in government or in our individual
worlds, the tactics are the same. Tell
me if this sounds familiar. When defending
the belief that you do not wish to be robbed of that which is rightfully yours,
you are scolded for being selfish. You
are lectured that you should want to contribute all of your earnings to the
community bowl. Everyone should be entitled
to your earnings, even if they did nothing to earn it. You are mocked; belittled and nudged down an
uncomfortable road.

Leggings continue to be a point of contention between students and administrators because while girls love wearing them because they're comfortable and versatile, administrators continue to rage against them because, to them, they're inappropriate.
Mt. Juliet High School administrators in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee reprimanded over 40 girls for wearing leggings yesterday and sent them out of class until they were able to get a change of clothes.
The school's dress code states that students are allowed to wear leggings with an appropriate dress, skirt, or shorts over them - an appropriate coverup falling at least three inches above the knee.
According to Wilson County Schools' spokeswoman, Amelia Hipps, all 40 girls were not wearing appropriate tops with their leggings. "The bottom line is, the tops weren't long enough," she told The Tennesseean. "It didn't have anything to do with the leggings, it was what was (worn) over the leggings not meeting student dress code."
Calls were made to the parents of all the girls who were removed from class and, by the end of the day, only eight students did not meet the dress code. There's no word on whether these eight girls were allowed to return to class.

Hacktivist group Anonymous publishes names of alleged Ku Klux Klan members:
The mayor of Lexington, Ky., says he's not a member of the Ku Klux Klan . Anonymous postings saying otherwise are "false, insulting and ridiculous," Jim Gray said in a statement on Monday.
Gray, the city's Democratic mayor, was responding to the release of names of purported KKK members by someone claiming to be with the hacktivist group Anonymous.
"I have never had any relationship of any kind with the KKK. I am opposed to everything it stands for. I have no idea where this information came from, but wherever it came from, it is wrong," Gray said.
Others also named began to take to Twitter Monday to deny they were members. The postings came from someone using the Twitter handle TheAnonMessage who claimed to represent the group Anonymous. That global online activist network said last week it would expose Ku Klux Klan members and publish personal details about alleged KKK adherents.

Along the migrant trail, pressure grows to close Europe’s open borders - The Washington Post:
SENTILJ, Slovenia — With Slovenia behind them and Austria just ahead, the asylum seekers shoved at the metal barriers blocking their path and chanted a plea into the smoky night air: “We want to go!”
Nearly 1,000 people had been waiting all day for the border crossing to open, penned into a no-man’s land by twitchy troops armed with pistols and assault rifles who met requests for food or water with stern commands and glares icy enough to match the fast-falling temperature.
“We’ve already spent two nights outside,” said Galia Ali, pointing to her severely disabled 8-year-old son, who lay shivering on a blanket near a dwindling fire. “If we’re still here in the morning, he’ll be dead.”

Sumte, in the east of Germany, is inhabited mainly by wealthy pensioners
The first of 500 refugees arrived in a tiny German village tonight amid fears it will become overwhelmed by migrants.
Some 100 men, women and children stepped off two buses in the rural village of Sumte, close to the river Elbe in eastern Germany, tonight.
The refugees were welcomed by welfare group Arbeiter- Samariter-Bund (ASB) who have transformed the former offices of a debt collection agency into a shelter for 500.
In the village, which has a population of only 102, a local neo-Nazi councillor is rubbing his hands with delight at the propaganda victory bureaucrats in Berlin appear to have handed him.
21 Facts About The Explosive Growth Of Poverty In America That Will Blow Your Mind
21 Facts About The Explosive Growth Of Poverty In America That Will Blow Your Mind:
What you are about to see is more evidence that the growth of poverty in the United States is wildly out of control.
It turns out that there is a tremendous amount of suffering in “the wealthiest nation on the planet”, and it is getting worse with each passing year.
During this election season, politicians of all stripes are running around telling all of us how great we are, but is that really true?
As you will see below, poverty is reaching unprecedented levels in this country, and the middle class is steadily dying.
There aren’t enough good jobs to go around, dependence on the government has never been greater, and it is our children that are being hit the hardest.
If we have this many people living on the edge of despair now, while times are “good”, what are things going to look like when our economy really starts falling apart?

The following are 21 facts about the explosive growth of poverty in America that will blow your mind…
#1 The U.S. Census Bureau says that nearly 47 million Americans are living in poverty right now.
#2 Other numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau are also very disturbing. For example, in 2007 about one out of every eight children in America was on food stamps. Today, that number is one out of every five.
#3 According to Kathryn J. Edin and H. Luke Shaefer, the authors of a new book entitled “$2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America“, there are 1.5 million “ultrapoor” households in the United States that live on less than two dollars a day. That number has doubled since 1996.
#4 46 million Americans use food banks each year, and lines start forming at some U.S. food banks as early as 6:30 in the morning because people want to get something before the food supplies run out.
#5 The number of homeless children in the U.S. has increased by 60 percentover the past six years.

A Mass Migration Crisis, and It May Yet Get Worse
A Mass Migration Crisis, and It May Yet Get Worse - The New York Times:
"SID, Serbia — They arrived in an unceasing stream, 10,000 a day at the height, as many as a million migrants heading for Europe this year, pushing infants in strollers and elderly parents in wheelchairs, carrying children on their shoulders and life savings in their socks.
They came in search of a new life, but in many ways they were the heralds of a new age.
There are more displaced people and refugees now than at any other time in recorded history — 60 million in all — and they are on the march in numbers not seen since World War II.
They are coming not just from Syria, but from an array of countries and regions, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Gaza, even Haiti, as well as any of a dozen or so nations in sub-Saharan and North Africa.
They are unofficial ambassadors of failed states, unending wars, intractable conflicts.
The most striking thing about the current migration crisis, however, is how much bigger it could still get.
What if Islamic State militants are not beaten back but continue to extend their brutal writ across Iraq and Syria?
What if the Taliban continue to increase their territorial gains in Afghanistan, prompting even more people to flee?
A quarter of Afghans told a Gallup Poll that they want to leave, and more than 100,000 are expected to try to flee to Europe this year..."

US Trade Deficit Narrows 15%, Smallest Since Feb 2015 As Petroleum Imports Collapse | Zero Hedge
Against expectations of a $41bn deficit, September's trade deficit was practically in line at -$40.8bn,dramatically narrower than the revised higher (less negative) August print of $48.02bn as petroleum imports plunge to lowest since May 2004. With the smallest deficit since Feb 2015, The Fed is going to need a bigger boat to have enough debt to monetize when the looming rate hike drags the economy to the point of requiring more intervention.

US petroleum imports:
The US September monthly international trade deficit decreased from $48.0 billion in August (revised) to $40.8 billion in September, as exports increased and imports decreased. The previously published August deficit was $48.3 billion.
- The goods deficit decreased $7.3 billion from August to $60.3 billion in September.
- The services surplus decreased $0.1 billion from August to $19.5 billion in September.
However, if one excludes petroleum trade, the core US trade deficit is about as about as bad as ever. Should the shale destruction continue, and US imports of oil return, this will be what happens to overall US trade.
China's Economy Is Worse Than You Think
China's Economy Is Worse Than You Think - Bloomberg View
The unreliability of Chinese official economic data has become almost a cliche.
A few years before he became China's premier, Li Keqiang said that the country's numbers were "man-made" and "for reference only."
If the top economic policy maker of a country says that the numbers aren't reliable … well, you believe him.
But how unreliable?
The fudge factors might only be a few tenths of a percentage point.
It's very hard to fake economic numbers in the same direction for a very long time -- eventually, it becomes obvious to everyone that your economy is either much bigger or much smaller than the cumulative growth rates would have indicated.
Something a bit like this happened to China back in 2007, when the Asian Development Bank reported that China's gross domestic product was much smaller than believed. Chinese inflation had been understated, leading to real (inflation-adjusted) growth numbers that had been too high for too long.
In the current economic environment, the big question is whether China is suffering a deeper slowdown than is generally believed..."

Father, Adopted Son Seek Right To Marry Each Other « CBS DC
WASHINGTON (CBSDC)– If you asked Nino Esposito and his partner five years ago when they thought same-sex marriage would be legal, they’d say the day would never come.
Prior to the Supreme Court’s legalization of same-sex marriage nationwide, many gay couples used adoption laws as a way to gain legal family ties in order to get benefits, as reported by CNN.
This was the case for Esposito, a retired teacher, and his now adopted partner Roland “Drew” Bosee, a former freelance and technical writer.
The couple went through with the adoption in 2012 after 40 years of being together.
The couple is now trying to reverse the adoption in order to get married, but a state court judge has rejected that request saying adoption annulments are generally limited to cases of fraud..."

Debt ceiling lifted, and the same day, debt jumps $339B | Washington Examiner:
"The U.S. national debt jumped $339 billion on Monday, the same day President Obama signed into law legislation suspending the debt ceiling.
That legislation allowed the government to borrow as much as it wants above the $18.1 trillion debt ceiling that had been in place.
The website that reports the exact tally of the debt said the U.S. government owed $18.153 trillion last Friday, and said that number surged to $18.492 on Monday.
The increase reflects an increasingly common pattern that can be seen in the total U.S. debt level when the debt ceiling is reached."

How the widening urban-rural divide threatens America
How the widening urban-rural divide threatens America - LA Times
Of all the growing divides in America, none is sharper than that between city and country.
For rural residents, existential issues on the national level are seen as magnified versions of personal considerations:
Does the country have enough food, fuel and minerals?
Can America defend itself, protect its friends and punish its enemies?
These concerns differ markedly from the urbanite's worry about whether the government will provide services to take care of vulnerable populations or whether those of different races and religions can get along in such a crowded environment.
Add all this up and rural residents are more likely to be conservative and thus Republican, their urban counterparts liberal and logically Democratic.
Most hot-button issues — deficit spending, defense, same-sex marriage, amnesty, affirmative action, gun control, and abortion — break along rural or urban lines.
But what, exactly, causes this division?...

He was later arrested and charged with making a false police report.

Government: District Has 30 Days to Change Transgender Student Locker Room Policy:
"Uncle Sam isn’t going to let schools place certain restrictions on how transgender students use a single-sex locker room.
A school district near Chicago, Palatine 211, provides numerous accommodations for transgender students.
The district calls the students by requested names, honors selected gender (including allowing them to play on the sports teams of the gender they identify as belonging to), and permits them to use single-sex bathrooms, since stalls ensure privacy.
But the federal government has decided the district is still guilty of violating Title IX, the law prohibiting sex-based discrimination, over certain locker room restrictions.
“District 211 is not excluding transgender students from their gender-identified locker room,” said district superintendent Daniel Cates in a statement.
“Though our position has been inaccurately reported, a transgender student may use his or her gender-identified locker room simply by utilizing individual measures of privacy when changing clothes or taking showers.”
“All students deserve the opportunity to participate equally in school programs and activities – this is a basic civil right.
Unfortunately, Township High School District 211 is not following the law because the district continues to deny a female student the right to use the girls’ locker room,” said Catherine Lhamon, assistant secretary for Civil Rights at the Department of Education, in a statement.
According to the Associated Press, “District 211 has 30 days to change the policy, or risk losing millions in federal funding.”

Bill Gates says that capitalism cannot save us from climate change:
The world’s richest man, Bill Gates, has said that the private sector is too selfish and inefficient to produce effective energy alternatives to fossil fuels.
While announcing his plan to spend $2 billion of his own wealth on green energy during an interview with The Atlantic, the Microsoft founder called on fellow billionaires to help make the US fossil-free by 2050 with similar philanthropy.

There’s no fortune to be made. Even if you have a new energy source that costs the same as today’s and emits no CO2, it will be uncertain compared with what’s tried-and-true and already operating at unbelievable scale and has gotten through all the regulatory problems.Without a substantial carbon tax, there’s no incentive for innovators or plant buyers to switch.Since World War II, US-government R&D has defined the state of the art in almost every area. The private sector is in general inept. The climate problem has to be solved in the rich countries. China and the US and Europe have to solve CO2 emissions, and when they do, hopefully they’ll make it cheap enough for everyone else.
In recent years, China has surged ahead of the US and Europe in green investment, despite remaining the world’s most polluting country in terms of fossil fuels.
Between 2000 and 2012, China’s solar energy output rose from 3 to 21,000 megawatts, rising 67 per cent between 2013 and 2014. In 2014 the country’s CO2 emissions decreased 1 per cent.
Meanwhile, Germany’s greenhouse emissions are at the lowest point since 1990, and the UK has seen a decrease of 13.35 per cent in emissions over the last five years, according to official quarterly statistics from the Department of Energy & Climate Change.
