‘Twas the Night before Halloween

Although I was angry, I can’t say I was not surprised.  I heard the news regarding the decision by the Department of Party Favor Justice, that it was ending its investigation into the IRS Targeting Scandal.  No charges would be brought against Lois Lerner or anyone else for that matter. 

Why should charges be brought against anyone?   There was absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing.  I mean, we are talking about the most transparent administration in the history of the world!  What do we really have as proof?  Evidence was destroyed and lies, when told often enough, become the truth.  And never mind the fact that a corrupt administration just investigated itself. 

When this little bit of unsurprising, yet blood boiling news came out, I was a little busy drying the eyes of my girls.  After all, they had just told me about their upcoming Socialist Halloween.  The Civics lesson continues.

As Halloween approached and they knew they would be going away, the excitement diminished.  I thought everyone was supposed to be happy when you spread the wealth around or in this case, candy.  The answer is no and the youngest, most inexperienced at life around us, know it and get it.

To gain control, be it in government or in our individual worlds, the tactics are the same.  Tell me if this sounds familiar.  When defending the belief that you do not wish to be robbed of that which is rightfully yours, you are scolded for being selfish.  You are lectured that you should want to contribute all of your earnings to the community bowl.  Everyone should be entitled to your earnings, even if they did nothing to earn it.  You are mocked; belittled and nudged down an uncomfortable road.

Leggings continue to be a point of contention between students and administrators because while girls love wearing them because they're comfortable and versatile, administrators continue to rage against them because, to them, they're inappropriate.

​Mt. Juliet High School administrators in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee reprimanded over 40 girls for wearing leggings yesterday and sent them out of class until they were able to get a change of clothes.

The school's dress code states that students are allowed to wear leggings with an appropriate dress, skirt, or shorts over them - an appropriate coverup falling at least three inches above the knee.

According to Wilson County Schools' spokeswoman, Amelia Hipps, all 40 girls were not wearing appropriate tops with their leggings. "The bottom line is, the tops weren't long enough," she told ​​The Tennesseean. "It didn't have anything to do with the leggings, it was what was (worn) over the leggings not meeting student dress code."

Calls were made to the parents of all the girls who were removed from class and, by the end of the day, only eight students did not meet the dress code. There's no word on whether these eight girls were allowed to return to class.

Others also named began to take to Twitter Monday to deny they were members. The postings came from someone using the Twitter handle TheAnonMessage who claimed to represent the group Anonymous. That global online activist network said last week it would expose Ku Klux Klan members and publish personal details about alleged KKK adherents.

Against expectations of a $41bn deficit, September's trade deficit was practically in line at -$40.8bn,dramatically narrower than the revised higher (less negative) August print of $48.02bn as petroleum imports plunge to lowest since May 2004. With the smallest deficit since Feb 2015, The Fed is going to need a bigger boat to have enough debt to monetize when the looming rate hike drags the economy to the point of requiring more intervention.

US petroleum imports:

The US September monthly international trade deficit decreased from $48.0 billion in August (revised) to $40.8 billion in September, as exports increased and imports decreased. The previously published August deficit was $48.3 billion.

• The goods deficit decreased $7.3 billion from August to $60.3 billion in September.
• The services surplus decreased $0.1 billion from August to $19.5 billion in September.

However, if one excludes petroleum trade, the core US trade deficit is about as about as bad as ever. Should the shale destruction continue, and US imports of oil return, this will be what happens to overall US trade.

The fudge factors might only be a few tenths of a percentage point.
It's very hard to fake economic numbers in the same direction for a very long time -- eventually, it becomes obvious to everyone that your economy is either much bigger or much smaller than the cumulative growth rates would have indicated.
Something a bit like this happened to China back in 2007, when the Asian Development Bank reported that China's gross domestic product was much smaller than believed. Chinese inflation had been understated, leading to real (inflation-adjusted) growth numbers that had been too high for too long.
In the current economic environment, the big question is whether China is suffering a deeper slowdown than is generally believed..."

A school district near Chicago, Palatine 211, provides numerous accommodations for transgender students.
The district calls the students by requested names, honors selected gender (including allowing them to play on the sports teams of the gender they identify as belonging to), and permits them to use single-sex bathrooms, since stalls ensure privacy.
But the federal government has decided the district is still guilty of violating Title IX, the law prohibiting sex-based discrimination, over certain locker room restrictions.
“District 211 is not excluding transgender students from their gender-identified locker room,” said district superintendent Daniel Cates in a statement.
“Though our position has been inaccurately reported, a transgender student may use his or her gender-identified locker room simply by utilizing individual measures of privacy when changing clothes or taking showers.”
“All students deserve the opportunity to participate equally in school programs and activities – this is a basic civil right.
Unfortunately, Township High School District 211 is not following the law because the district continues to deny a female student the right to use the girls’ locker room,” said Catherine Lhamon, assistant secretary for Civil Rights at the Department of Education, in a statement.
According to the Associated Press, “District 211 has 30 days to change the policy, or risk losing millions in federal funding.”

The world’s richest man, Bill Gates, has said that the private sector is too selfish and inefficient to produce effective energy alternatives to fossil fuels.

While announcing his plan to spend $2 billion of his own wealth on green energy during an interview with The Atlantic, the Microsoft founder called on fellow billionaires to help make the US fossil-free by 2050 with similar philanthropy.

He said:

There’s no fortune to be made. Even if you have a new energy source that costs the same as today’s and emits no CO2, it will be uncertain compared with what’s tried-and-true and already operating at unbelievable scale and has gotten through all the regulatory problems.

Without a substantial carbon tax, there’s no incentive for innovators or plant buyers to switch.

Since World War II, US-government R&D has defined the state of the art in almost every area. The private sector is in general inept.

The climate problem has to be solved in the rich countries. China and the US and Europe have to solve CO2 emissions, and when they do, hopefully they’ll make it cheap enough for everyone else.

In recent years, China has surged ahead of the US and Europe in green investment, despite remaining the world’s most polluting country in terms of fossil fuels.

Between 2000 and 2012, China’s solar energy output rose from 3 to 21,000 megawatts, rising 67 per cent between 2013 and 2014. In 2014 the country’s CO2 emissions decreased 1 per cent.

Meanwhile, Germany’s greenhouse emissions are at the lowest point since 1990, and the UK has seen a decrease of 13.35 per cent in emissions over the last five years, according to official quarterly statistics from the Department of Energy & Climate Change.
