OBAMA BREAKS REGULATION RECORDS

OBAMA BREAKS REGULATION RECORDS | Somewhat Reasonable
Bureaucrats in the Obama administration added a record number of pages to the federal rule book in 2015, carrying out the president’s directives to work around Congress when necessary to push his big-government agenda on issues such as climate change.
In 2015, the administration added 81,611 pages to the Federal Register, according to theCompetitive Enterprise Institute’s Clyde Wayne Crews, the highest total on record and the third time Obama has crossed the 80,000-page level during his presidency.
Crews noted with the exception of President Ronald Reagan, who managed to limit the Federal Register to under 50,000 pages of new rules and regulations per year, the number of pages in recent years has generally been around 70,000.
Under Obama it’s been averaging more like 80,000.
The administration proposed 2,334 rules and finalized 3,378 rules and regulations in 2015.
Major rules issued by the administration in 2015 included a number aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions, such as the Clean Power Plan regulations on new and existing power plants, and new efficiency standards for commercial air conditioners.
About the administration’s regulatory onslaught Crews said, “[The] president has made clear he’s going to go around Congress when he gets the chance.
Just the sheer volume, the size of the Federal Registry, has never been this high.”

Hillary's Saps

Hillary's Saps :: SteynOnline:
"Charles McCullough, the Inspector General of the US Intelligence Community, has informed Congress that Hillary Clinton had "several dozen emails containing classified information determined by the IC element to be at the confidential, secret, and top secret/sap levels" on that private homebrew server she kept in some guy's bathroom closet in Colorado.
"Sap" stands for "special access program" and is the level above "top secret" - or, in laymen's terms, super-duper extra-top secret.
It's generally accepted that much of that "sap" material made its way from Hillary's inbox to hostile intelligence agencies around the world.
Had anybody else treated years' worth of the most confidential material so recklessly, they would now be in jail awaiting trial.
By comparison, General Petraeus shared a tiny amount of "sap" material with just one person - his biographer-cum-mistress.
He was prosecuted for breaching exactly the same non-disclosure agreement Hillary signed.
As further punishment, it now seems the four-star general is likely to be demoted:
Reducing Petraeus's rank, most likely to lieutenant general, could mean he'd have to pay back the difference in pension payments and other benefits that he received as a retired four-star general.
That would amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars over his retirement..."

Our national collapse-----legal immigrants who overstay visas rarely investigated

Illegal immigrants who overstay visas rarely investigated - Washington Times
The federal government doesn’t investigate 99 percent of illegal immigrants who entered the country legally but overstayed their visas, Homeland Security officials told the Senate on Wednesday, exposing what critics said was a giant loophole in immigration enforcement and national security.
Those whose names pop up as security threats or serious criminals draw scrutiny, but most of the rest of the more than 500,000 visitors who didn’t leave when their time was up in 2015 were deemed nonpriorities.
...But the 1.17 percent defiance rate still meant some 527,127 individuals overstayed, and, as of three months later, more than 400,000 of them were still likely in the U.S.
When combined with previous years’ overstays, the numbers “must be in the millions,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley, Iowa Republican.
Meanwhile, the government deported only about 2,500 visa overstays last year, and has only about 3,000 active cases — accounting for just a small fraction of the problem.
...At least five of the hijackers involved in the Sept. 11, 2001, attack had arrived on legal visas but overstayed, leaving them in the country to carry out their plot..."

Lesbian students report higher rates of sexual assault than straight females, new federal data show

Lesbian students report higher rates of sexual assault than straight females, new federal data show - The College Fix:
Some activists against campus sexual assault highlight their contention that the problem is worse among sexual minorities – students who identify as LGBT.
They just got backing from a new study funded by the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics, which finds a “significantly higher” prevalence of sexual assault directed toward “nonheterosexual” females as opposed to straight female students.
Researchers ran a pilot test of nine colleges “to develop a campus climate survey that collects school-level data on sexual victimization of undergraduate students,” according to the study. They got “acceptable levels of precision” in estimated assault for eight of them (page 78):
At each of these eight schools, the observed prevalence of sexual assault victimization was higher for nonheterosexual students than heterosexual students in the female sample. A similar pattern is evident in the schools for which sufficiently precise estimates were created for sexual battery and rape (see Appendix E-10 through 18); with one exception (sexual battery rates in School 5), rates of sexual battery and rape were significantly higher for nonheterosexual students than heterosexual students. Although it was not possible to generate school-specific estimates of the prevalence of sexual assault for transgendered persons, Appendix E-9 [page E-7] shows cross-school average estimates for sexual assault, rape, and sexual battery victimization for those who self-identified as transgender/other and female.

Barbarians! Covered only On AP: Oldest Christian monastery in Iraq is razed

Only On AP: Oldest Christian monastery in Iraq is razed:
IRBIL, Iraq (AP) — The oldest Christian monastery in Iraq has been reduced to a field of rubble, yet another victim of the Islamic State group's relentless destruction of ancient cultural sites.
For 1,400 years the compound survived assaults by nature and man, standing as a place of worship recently for U.S. troops.
In earlier centuries, generations of monks tucked candles in the niches and prayed in the cool chapel. The Greek letters chi and rho, representing the first two letters of Christ's name, were carved near the entrance.
Mideast Iraq Monastery DestroyedNow satellite photos obtained exclusively by The Associated Press confirm the worst fears of church authorities and preservationists — St. Elijah's Monastery of Mosul has been completely wiped out.
In his office in exile in Irbil, Iraq, the Rev. Paul Thabit Habib, 39, stared quietly at before- and after-images of the monastery that once perched on a hillside above his hometown of Mosul. Shaken, he flipped back to his own photos for comparison.
"I can't describe my sadness," he said in Arabic. "Our Christian history in Mosul is being barbarically leveled. We see it as an attempt to expel us from Iraq, eliminating and finishing our existence in this land..."

CLIMATE ALARMISTS INCREASINGLY EMBRACE AUTHORITARIANISM

CLIMATE ALARMISTS INCREASINGLY EMBRACE AUTHORITARIANISM | Somewhat Reasonable:
Professor Nico Stehr, founding director of the European Center for Sustainability Research, notes there are many threats to democracy – including the widespread, growing feeling of not being heard or represented by the political class.
Some climatologists, including many who believe human-caused global warming poses a catastrophic threat to the planet, say democracy itself is a hindrance to sound climate policy.
They say democracies are increasingly proving themselves incapable of delivering strong and timely policy responses to exceptional global threats.
Stehr quotes Australians David Shearman and Joseph Wayne Smith, who write in The Climate Change Challenge and the Failure of Democracy, “We need an authoritarian form of government to implement the scientific consensus on greenhouse gas emissions.”
James Hansen, James Lovelock, and Eric Hobsbawn have all written the democratic process is not working when it comes to climate change.
In his book The Vanishing Face of Gaia, Lovelock went so far as to demand democracy be abandoned to meet the challenges of climate change, which he deemed “a state of war.”
Stehr notes this is not the first time intellectuals have called for rule by educated elites.
Economist and social philosopher Friedrich Hayek remarked on the paradoxical development, noting as “ignorance” of science falls, “people who are intoxicated by the progress of knowledge, so often become enemies of freedom.”
Stehr also observes climate alarmists’ pessimistic assessment of the ability of democracies to cope with climate change, as with other purported instances of exceptional circumstances, is linked with an optimistic assessment of the potential of central planning.
And really, is it any surprise that as the public becomes less supportive of their cause, the climate alarmists become less interested in the opinions of the public?

Blacks and the Confederacy

Blacks and the Confederacy - Walter E. Williams - Page 1
Last July, Anthony Hervey, an outspoken black advocate for the Confederate flag, was killed in a car crash.
Arlene Barnum, a surviving passenger in the vehicle, told authorities and the media that they had been forced off the road by a carload of "angry young black men" after Hervey, while wearing his Confederate kepi, stopped at a convenience store en route to his home in Oxford, Mississippi.
His death was in no small part caused by the gross level of ignorance, organized deceit and anger about the War of 1861.
Much of the ignorance stems from the fact that most Americans believe the war was initiated to free slaves, when in truth, freeing slaves was little more than an afterthought.
I want to lay out a few quotations and ask what you make of them.
During the "Civil War," ex-slave Frederick Douglass observed, "There are at the present moment many colored men in the Confederate army doing duty not only as cooks, servants and laborers, but as real soldiers, having muskets on their shoulders, and bullets in their pockets, ready to shoot down loyal troops, and do all that soldiers may to destroy the Federal Government and build up that of the traitors and rebels" (Douglass' Monthly, September 1861).
"For more than two years, negroes had been extensively employed in belligerent operations by the Confederacy.
They had been embodied and drilled as Rebel soldiers, and had paraded with White troops at a time when this would not have been tolerated in the armies of the Union." (Horace Greeley, in his book, "The American Conflict").
"Over 3,000 negroes must be included in this number (of Confederate troops).
These were clad in all kinds of uniforms, not only in cast-off or captured United States uniforms, but in coats with Southern buttons, State buttons, etc.
These were shabby, but not shabbier or seedier than those worn by white men in rebel ranks.
Most of the negroes had arms, rifles, muskets, sabres, bowie-knives, dirks, etc.
They were supplied, in many instances, with knapsacks, haversacks, canteens, etc., and were manifestly an integral portion of the Southern Confederacy Army.
They were seen riding on horses and mules, driving wagons, riding on caissons, in ambulances, with the staff of Generals, and promiscuously mixed up with all the rebel horde" (report by Dr. Lewis H. Steiner, chief inspector of the U.S. Sanitary Commission).
In April 1861, a Petersburg, Virginia, newspaper proposed "three cheers for the patriotic free Negroes of Lynchburg" after 70 blacks offered "to act in whatever capacity" had been "assigned to them" in defense of Virginia..."

Almost Half a Million Overstayed Business/Tourist Visas Last Year

Almost Half a Million Overstayed Business/Tourist Visas Last Year
Just how many people overstayed their visas in fiscal year 2015 and where have they gone?
There’s no way to know for sure because the federal government has refused to implement visa tracking ever since Congress mandated it 20 years ago.
But according to a new report from the border patrol, 482,781 individuals who entered on tourist or business visas were still believed to be illegally present in the United States at the end of FY 2015.
The number of total visa overstays for past year is likely far more than 482,000.
The scope of the Department of Homeland Security report only covered data on B-1 (those visiting on business) and B-2 (those visiting on pleasure) visas.
There are numerous categories of visas, such as F-1 visas for student visas, the multiple H and L foreign worker visas, and the J-1 exchange visas.
We’ve admitted almost one million foreign students during the last academic year alone.
The scattered data is incomplete and leaves us with no sense of how many people overstay their visas on a given year and where they reside.
Moreover, this DHS report does not cover those who entered on various visas through land ports. This means there are likely endless numbers of Latin Americans who’ve entered through our southern border check points and have disappeared into our country.
Read on and wonder what has happened to our country.

Mojave Desert

By Tammy Derouin

It just gets exhausting after a while, doesn’t it?  The thought of sitting through yet another round of narcissistic, self-indulgent lecturing by an individual, who has made it his mission to destroy our country, was unbearable.  As I counted down the minutes to the SOTU, I looked for every excuse to avoid it.  I didn’t want to hear the executive’s voice.  I didn’t want to watch his arrogant swagger.  Most of all, I didn’t want to waste my time listening to lies.

In the end, I forced myself to watch.  As disturbing as it is, it’s always better to know the intentions of the wolf than to pretend he does not exist.  The SOTU was a predictable love fest; Woodstock would have been jealous.  His performance was also quite predictable.  He is always disappointing so he lived up to the low expectation.

The executive delighted his captive (no pun intended) audience with fairy tales.  He has created an alternate reality throughout his term in office.  It’s a reality which only exists in his larger than life head.  He uses his pen to draw out the plans.  He shows the fictional inflated progress as he continues to give us his mandatory one-way directions.  Selling it like a swindler selling water front property in the Mojave Desert, you become the fool if you don’t take the bait.

The performance to sell this sham is always the same...

Portland Community College to devote an entire month to 'whiteness'-shaming:
"The school says the month is an "educational project" exploring how the "construct of whiteness" creates racial inequality.
Portland Community College has designated April "Whiteness History Month" (WHM), an "educational project" exploring how the "construct of whiteness" creates racial inequality.
"'Whiteness History Month: Context, Consequences, and Change' is a multidisciplinary, district-wide, educational project examining race and racism through an exploration of the construction of whiteness, its origins, and heritage,"
PCC states on its website. "Scheduled for the month of April 2016, the project seeks to inspire innovative and practical solutions to community issues and social problems that stem from racism."
Whiteness "does not simply refer to skin color[,] but [to] an ideology based on beliefs, values, behaviors, habits, and attitudes, which result in the unequal distribution of power and privilege based on skin color."
The WHM site makes clear that the project is not a "celebratory endeavor" like heritage months, but is rather "an effort to change our campus climate" by "[challenging] the master narrative of race and racism through an exploration of the social construction of whiteness."
("Challenging the master narrative," PCC explains, "is a strategy within higher education that promotes multicultural education and equity.")...

The rape of the US Marine Corps: a lunatic drive for ‘fairness’

The rape of the US Marine Corps: a lunatic drive for ‘fairness’ | New York Post
Gen. John Kelly, USMC, is retiring after more than four decades as an active-duty Marine.
His “greatest fear,” he says, is that the vast “equal opportunity” pressure for women in combat roles will lead the Pentagon to water down standards.
Kelly is finishing up as head of US Southern Command after an exemplary career that included three tours in Iraq.
He’s also the highest-ranking US officer to have lost a child in the nation’s post-9/11 wars: His son, 1st Lt. Robert Kelly, USMC, was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010.
Why is he worried?
Well, Defense Secretary Ash Carter last month announced that women will soon be eligible for all combat positions. (They had been blocked from about 10 percent of those posts.)
Yes, Carter also warned that equal opportunity wouldn’t bring “equal participation by men and women in all specialties.”
The reasons are obvious: On average, the two sexes simply have different physical virtues.
Men will dominate when it comes to upper-body strength, which is generally vital in combat roles.
And Carter has vowed not to alter the high standards for those roles.
But Kelly doubts that will last: “Whether it’s 12 months from now, four years from now … the question will be asked whether we’ve [truly] let women into these other roles.”
Ideologues who don’t see the results they want will ask, “Why aren’t [women] staying in those roles? Why aren’t they advancing as infantry people?”
Navy Secretary Ray Mabus has already offered a taste of what’s ahead.
He’s denied the Marine Corps’ request to continue sex-segregated boot camp and Officer Training School.
Indeed, on Jan. 1, he gave the Corps just two weeks to come up with an integration plan.
On top of that, he’s ordered the Marines to adopt politically correct titles by changing every “man” label.
That implies the Marines are about to lose every “rifleman” — when every Marine is a rifleman.
It’s impossible to think of a worse insult — or a greater sign that the ideologues will win in the not-so-distant future.
The Fire Department of New York has bitter experience with the same drill.
The Post runs regular exposés of the efforts to bend (already lowered) FDNY standards with an eye to a “better” gender balance.
Look, we admire the heck out of a woman who keeps trying even after she’s failed a key FDNY physical test six times.
But it’s shocking to see her become a firefighter without ever passing.
It’s beyond troubling to think about the potential impact on public safety and firefighter safety.
And it’s impossible not to share Gen. Kelly’s fears for the future of our men and women in uniform.

Sen. Tom Cotton: Mr. Obama, here's why closing Guantanamo is a big mistake

Sen. Tom Cotton: Mr. Obama, here's why closing Guantanamo is a big mistake | Fox News:
"...Guantanamo Bay is also a critical tool in our counterterrorism efforts.
It is secure from attack and allows us to concentrate trained experts in interrogation in one place, to extract intelligence of paramount importance in uncovering and stopping plots against Americans.
Information obtained from detainees at Guantanamo has been described by the CIA as "the lead information" that enabled the agency to recognize the importance of a courier for Usama bin Laden, a crucial understanding that lead to Bin Laden's secret hideout in Pakistan and the U.S. raid that killed him.
It is this kind of information that we are losing by not making greater use of Guantanamo.
Additionally, take for example what’s happened to those “detainees” who have been released from Guantanamo Bay.
In 2007, the U.S. released Mullah Abdul Rauf, a former Taliban commander who claimed to have been a simple bread deliveryman.
In the interim, he has reestablished himself as a warlord in southern Afghanistan-- one who pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State-- and led a group of insurgent fighters.
Earlier this year, U.S. forces had to face him again.
Thankfully, they killed him..."

Oklahoma Legislature Cracks Down on Men in Women’s Bathrooms

Oklahoma Legislature Cracks Down on Men in Women’s Bathrooms | Daily Wire
Recently, San Francisco has moved for a “Gender-Neutral Bathroom Revolution,” New York City has announced an insane law that would unleash steep fines (up to $250,000) on employers requiring people to use the proper gender-assigned bathroom, Houston Mayor Annise Parker tried (but failed) to pass an ordinance which included the allowance of transgender people to use the bathroom of their choosing, and Washington’s Human Rights Commission has modified regulations to mandate access and use of bathrooms based on "that individual's gender identity.”
On the heels of such actions, Republican Oklahoma Senator Joseph Silk has introduced Senate Bill 1014 which would mandate people to use the proper gender-specific bathroom based on their biology and not how they self-identify, reports Tulsa World.
The measure would make it “unlawful for a person to use a gender-specific restroom when that person’s biological gender is contrary to that of the gender-specific restroom.”
The measure would direct the state Board of Health to create rules to implement the measure.
Since it’s now considered a “controversial” idea that men use the men’s room and women use the women’s room due to the “gender is merely a construct” cultural-push from the left, all hell broke loose upon Silk’s proposal..."

A Terror State in Libya

A Terror State in Libya - WSJ:
"Islamic State fighters launched a naval assault in northern Libya last week, dispatching three boats that fired on an oil terminal at Zueitina.
Local guards repelled that attack, but it was a reminder of Islamic State’s growing capabilities and reach beyond its heartland in Syria and Iraq.
Too bad Western capitals seem unprepared to stop it.
The Zueitina episode was the latest in a string of Islamic State attacks in Libya since the new year.
On Jan. 8 an Islamic State truck bomb hit a police academy in Zliten, western Libya, killing 65 people.
The same week Islamic State arson attacks ignited two other Libyan oil terminals.
Islamic State draws much of its revenue by marketing oil from captured fields in Iraq and Syria.
Following the Zletin truck bombing, the European Union—300 miles across the Mediterranean—offered $108 million in security assistance to Libya.
The aid is supposed to take the form of technical and logistical support to the newly formed Libyan unity government, currently based in neighboring Tunisia.
The problem is that the new government—the product of a shaky agreement last month between the internationally recognized government based in Tobruk and the Islamist-backed General National Congress, headquartered in Tripoli—remains a mostly notional entity.
The competing governments have been at war for years, even as they both fight Islamic State, and elements of both governments have rejected the unity deal, as have some of their respective tribal and militia supporters.
Whether those political divisions can be resolved is anyone’s guess, but in the meantime the jihadist threat from Libya is growing larger.
That was underscored in December when Islamic State paraded a police force in the coastal city of Sirte, where it also holds the airport.
Islamic State now controls a long strip of the coastline between Tripoli and Benghazi, territory that also serves the group’s propaganda purposes in claiming to be an Islamic caliphate...."

Marine Corps Times Urges Veterans To Support More Gun Control - Breitbart:
On January 18, the Marine Corps Times criticized the “yield-no-ground attitude toward gun control” and urged veterans to support more gun laws.
The Marine Corps Times tweeted, “Veterans should lead the push for more secure gun laws.”
A link in the tweet takes readers to a January 18 article in the publication, written by former Sgt. Matthew Hess who served in the Marine Corps from 2009-2015.
In the article, Hess admits to reacting to attacks like San Bernardino with a desire to be armed and he “understands” the “skeptical” response to Obama’s decision to bypass Congress and tackle gun control unilaterally.
However, these things are trumped by Hess’ bewilderment that Marine’s accept one level of gun control in the military and another level of gun control for civilians.
Hess writes:
