Hillary Clinton Is Criticized for Private Emails in State Dept. Review - The New York Times
"WASHINGTON — The State Department’s inspector general has sharply criticized Hillary Clinton’s exclusive use of a private email server while she was secretary of state, saying she had not sought permission to use it and would not have received it if she had.
In a report delivered to members of Congress on Wednesday, the inspector general said that Mrs. Clinton “had an obligation to discuss using her personal email account to conduct official business” with officials responsible for handling records and security but that inspectors “found no evidence” that she had requested or received approval from anyone at the department to conduct her state business on a personal email.
The report also said that department officials “did not — and would not — approve her exclusive reliance on a personal email account to conduct Department business.”
It also added new detail about Mrs. Clinton’s motivation for using the private server, which she has said was set up for convenience..."

The State Department's report on Hillary Clinton's insouciant attitude toward cyber-security would finish any other American politician.
...They can't protect her as they once could, and the multiplicity of media means that while the gatekeepers are still at the gates, the walls on either side have fallen.
Meanwhile, State has publicly called her a liar and left a stinking mess on her doorstep that even her faithful house boys are going to find difficult to sweep aside.

Obama Snaps Photo With Communist Leader, Then People Notice What's in Background:
"It’s bad enough that President Barack Obama is snapping selfies with communist leaders. Now he’s doing it with a specific one who helped kill tens of thousands of American men.
During his visit to Vietnam, Obama has been doing a lot of ill-advised apologizing for America. However, that’s not the worst thing."

College cancels 'Men in Literature' course, says it's too focused on men - The College Fix:
"A “Men in Literature” course taught successfully for eight years at Springfield College has now been canceled after campus officials complained the class was too focused on men.
The popular humanities department-approved course was taught by Dr. Dennis Gouws.
Campus leaders, prior to axing the course, accused the scholar of turning the English class into something of a men’s gender studies class.
In return, Gouws changed the curriculum to appease campus leaders’ concerns — to no avail.
...Perhaps not coincidentally, Herzog and Gouws fractious interactions predate the “Men in Literature” situation.
Herzog had previously denied a request for sabbatical leave for Dr. Gouws in 2014, and had also reprimanded him in an e-mail for missing a “sexual harassment prevention” training to which he had already been excused, the report also said.
What’s more, when Gouws had put up a poster in 2013 bringing awareness to false rape accusations, college officials reported a complaint about the posters contributing to a “hostile environment.”
Dean Herzog then declared the group behind the poster, A Voice for Men, a hate group.
She cited the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization famous for labeling many groups that aren’t sufficiently liberal “hate groups.”...

The Real Reason College Tuition Costs So Much - The New York Times
The Real Reason College Tuition Costs So Much - The New York Times
BOULDER, Colo. — ONCE upon a time in America, baby boomers paid for college with the money they made from their summer jobs.
Then, over the course of the next few decades, public funding for higher education was slashed. These radical cuts forced universities to raise tuition year after year, which in turn forced the millennial generation to take on crushing educational debt loads, and everyone lived unhappily ever after.
This is the story college administrators like to tell when they’re asked to explain why, over the past 35 years, college tuition at public universities has nearly quadrupled, to $9,139 in 2014 dollars.
It is a fairy tale in the worst sense, in that it is not merely false, but rather almost the inverse of the truth.
The conventional wisdom was reflected in a recent National Public Radio series on the cost of college.
“So it’s not that colleges are spending more money to educate students,” Sandy Baum of the Urban Institute told NPR.
“It’s that they have to get that money from someplace to replace their lost state funding — and that’s from tuition and fees from students and families.”
In fact, public investment in higher education in America is vastly larger today, in inflation-adjusted dollars, than it was during the supposed golden age of public funding in the 1960s.
Such spending has increased at a much faster rate than government spending in general.
For example, the military’s budget is about 1.8 times higher today than it was in 1960, while legislative appropriations to higher education are more than 10 times higher.
In other words, far from being caused by funding cuts, the astonishing rise in college tuition correlates closely with a huge increase in public subsidies for higher education.
If over the past three decades car prices had gone up as fast as tuition, the average new car would cost more than $80,000.
...The rapid increase in college enrollment can be defended by intellectually respectable arguments. Even the explosion in administrative personnel is, at least in theory, defensible.
On the other hand, there are no valid arguments to support the recent trend toward seven-figure salaries for high-ranking university administrators, unless one considers evidence-free assertions about “the market” to be intellectually rigorous.
What cannot be defended, however, is the claim that tuition has risen because public funding for higher education has been cut.
Despite its ubiquity, this claim flies directly in the face of the facts."

It also transposed her recent comments blaming banks for the home foreclosure crisis with previous ones in which she said: "Homebuyers who paid extra fees to avoid documenting their income should have known they were getting in over their heads."
The video also included her claims that she had once landed in Bosnia under sniper fire, and footage showing she did not.

In 1978, NOAA showed 0.6 degrees global cooling since 1975 at the surface and in balloon data.
The cooling was present in both hemispheres...
The National Academy of Sciences knew about this cooling in 1975.
This cooling was seen in the vast majority of US stations and is still present in the untampered US data.
But for some reason, the cooling has disappeared from NASA data.
NASA used to show the cooling, but have since made it disappear.
Over the last 16 years, satellite and radiosonde data show cooling, which NASA has also erased.

The legal technicality that let BofA skate on an alleged billion-dollar mortgage fraud
The legal technicality that let BofA skate on an alleged billion-dollar mortgage fraud - LA Times: "...The program transferred responsibility for vetting the loans "from quality-focused underwriters to volume-focused loan specialists" using automated credit software, eliminated rules that effectively reduced commissions for low-quality loans, and cut the turnaround time for processing mortgages to 15 days from six weeks or more.
With speed and volume taking precedence over quality, a huge percentage of these loans was destined to be lousy.
Sure enough, more than 42% of the loans were "materially defective," Rakoff found.
As far as Fannie and Freddie knew, however, they all still met Countrywide's contractual representation that all the loans were "investment quality."
Instead, Rakoff wrote, HSSL "was from start to finish the vehicle for a brazen fraud...driven by a hunger for profits and oblivious to the harms thereby visited, not just on the immediate victims but also on the financial system as a whole."
Fannie and Freddie, he concluded, "would never have purchased any loans from the Bank Defendants if they known that Countrywide had intentionally lied to them."
So how, you might ask, could Bank of America wriggle out of that one?
The answer is through what Kelleher calls a "hyper-technical decision."
The judges based their ruling on the contracts that Countrywide had reached with Fannie and Freddie, pledging to provide those government-sponsored firms with "investment quality" mortgages.
There was no evidence, the appellate judges found, that the executives who signed those contracts intended at the time to stuff the pipeline with toxic junk.
It just turned out that way..."

Former medics find themselves on bottom rung in civilian field - Veterans - Stripes
"NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. — In four deployments as an Army combat medic to some of the most dangerous corners of Iraq and Afghanistan, Joe Carney had seen the worst of war — bullet wounds, severed limbs, shrapnel.
He saved lives amid bombs and gunfire, his emergency room often a patch of dirt in the desert or a rocky mountainside.
None of that mattered when he left the Army three years ago.
“I think the services should do a better job because at the end of the day, your last day in the Army, the last day in the Navy, you’re out, no one cares about you,” he said. “What I tell people who are planning to get out is, you have to have a plan.”
Like many medics and Navy corpsmen, the U.S. military’s front-line medical professionals, Carney’s skills translated to almost nothing in the civilian world.
...But despite his extensive training, he lacked state licensing certificates and he struggled to find a job at his skill level.
He settled on a job as an emergency room technician, where he was allowed to do little beyond administer oxygen and take blood pressure readings..."

NYC Protects 31 Gender Identities
NYC Protects 31 Gender Identities | The Daily Caller:
"Individuals living in New York City can choose from a minimum of 31 different gender identities, many of which allow them to fluctuate between some version or combination of male or female identities.
Businesses that don’t respect and accommodate an individual’s chosen gender identity risk incurring six-figure fines under rules implemented by the city’s Commission on Human Rights.
The list of protected gender identities is available online and includes options such as “gender bender,” “two spirit,” “third sex,” “androgynous,” “gender gifted,” and “pangender.”
...Someone who identifies as “genderqueer,” for example, is a “person whose gender identity is neither man nor woman, is between or beyond genders, or is some combination of genders.”
A “gender bender” is someone “who bends, changes, mixes, or combines society’s gender conventions by expressing elements of masculinity and femininity together.”
Similarly, someone who is “gender fluid” is a person “whose gender identification and presentation shifts, whether within or outside of societal, gender-based expectations.”

American Kid
By Tammy Derouin
I remember a time when the school day began by reciting the
Pledge of Allegiance. We were taught what the colors stood for, what the stars
and stripes represented, the proper way to raise and lower the flag, how to
handle it and above all, never, ever let it touch the ground.
Schools began to teach American History in the elementary
grades. We knew and understood such
phrases as, “One if by land, two if by sea;” and “Don’t shoot until you see the
whites of their eyes.” We were taught why the original Tea Party took place and
therefore understand the important symbolism it represents for a grass-roots
political party today. We knew what the shot heard around the world meant and where
it took place. We learned why the American Revolution was an important, world
changing event.
Do you remember when patriotic songs were part of elementary
music class? Music class and music
programs once included such songs as America the Beautiful, My Country ‘Tis of
Thee (America) and God Bless America. The
Star Spangled Banner, our National Anthem, tells a story, through it all, our
flag was still there.
We also learned songs which were unique to particular times,
wars and struggles. Yankee Doodle,
Dixieland, Don’t Sit under the Apple Tree and many others helped to tie
American history together. Maybe we
didn’t realize it at the time but through music we learned a few things.
Remember School House Rock? I learned
the preamble to the Constitution and had fun learning how a bill is supposed to
become a law by watching School House Rock.
For me, this was all part of the experience of being blessed to be an
American Kid.....

WHO CAUSED LAST NIGHT’S ANTI-TRUMP RIOTS? “Republican Dan Lewis, the President of the Albuquerque City Council issued this statement,” Larry O’Connor writes at Hot Air today. Here is Lewis’s statement:
“The violence that we’re seeing this evening is absolutely unacceptable, and it is not the fault of Donald Trump, his campaign, or the attendees at the rally this evening. It is directly the result of so called public interest groups, such as ProgressNM and the Southwest Organizing Project, fomenting hate. These organizations this evening devolved from community action groups to hate groups by every usual measure. This was not a protest – it was a riot that was the result of a mob trying to cause damage and injury to public property and innocent citizens exercising their constitutional right to peaceably assemble.”
“Thank you,” O’Connor adds. “And the statement from local Democrats? Can’t find one.” Well, other than their operatives with bylines at CNN, who describe last night’s riot as a mere “scuffle.”
Here’s an AP photo of the Albuquerque PD’s anti-scuffle brigade, who would eventually fire smoke grades (and according to some reports, pepper spray) at the mostly peaceful scufflers. Many more dramatic photos of the scuffle at Hot Air.
As John Hinderaker concludes in a Power Line titled “Electing Trump, One Riot at a Time,” “Liberals will try to imply that violence by anti-Trump rioters is somehow Trump’s fault, but they can’t sell that theory. Most people dislike riots and rioters just as much today as they did in 1968. Trump has risen to the top of the political heap in large part because of the enemies he has made. During the primaries, the more he was denounced by liberal reporters, the more votes he got. The same will happen in the general election if voters see that he is besieged by left-wing rioters.”

Rep. Sean Duffy , a Wisconsin Republican and chairman of the House Financial Services oversight and investigations subcommittee, said Friday the officials “skimmed” off three percent from mortgage-related bank settlements.
This created what he called a $500 million “slush fund” that could be steered toward favored groups.
...Justice officials were long able to “skim 3 percent of any settlement money into their own account to for the most part spend it the way they see fit,” Duffy told participants in the media briefing hosted by the Cause of Action Institute, a nonprofit legal watchdog group."

'Let Them Eat Rocks' Suggests Socialist Pig in Venezuela - The Libertarian Republic:
"A Venezuelan Governor Has Suggested Starving Citizens Eat Rocks And Sticks
...Yet, when the bill comes due for their free lunches, once social havoc has been inflicted upon the population by the policies of these economic ignoramuses, the hype of socialist leaders often turns away from “fairness and equity” and to callousness whereby, to quote Orwell, “some animals are more equal than others.”
And as bad luck would have it, we have Francisco Rangel, governor of the state of BolÃvar, to provided us with an ample example of such absurdity in a single phrase.
In response to widespread food shortages across Venezuela–a product of inflationary policies and price controls–Rangel had this to say to the struggling Venezuelan people:
“Let them take away whatever they want.
We are capable of eating a stick, or instead of frying two eggs, fry two rocks, and we will eat fried rocks, ” he said, “but no one can beat us.”
I wonder if Mr. Rangel has any intention of following his own advice.
Will he be frying up his own eggs while rocks sizzle in the mouths of “his” people?

...Yet, when the bill comes due for their free lunches, once social havoc has been inflicted upon the population by the policies of these economic ignoramuses, the hype of socialist leaders often turns away from “fairness and equity” and to callousness whereby, to quote Orwell, “some animals are more equal than others.”
Or, will he join them in gnawing on a stick like a domesticated dog?"...

Chaffetz Plays Damning Video Recap of IRS Targeting Scandal During House Hearing, Makes Case for Impeachment | Video | TheBlaze.com:
“This is really a simple case in my mind,” Chaffetz said. “When Congress asks you a question, you’re expected to give a truthful answer. When Congress issues a subpoena, compliance is not optional. Imagine if a taxpayer failed to comply with an IRS summons or subpoena — what would they do to you?”
The GOP lawmaker accused Koskinen of “actively misleading” Congress and failing to prevent evidence in the targeting scandal from being destroyed.
He also said the IRS commissioner failed to look in “five of the six” places Lerner’s emails could have been recovered: “the back up tapes, her Blackberry, the server, the backup server and the loaner laptop.”

"WISCONSIN — The world's largest collection of 1929 and 1930 Nash Motors automobiles exists not in a museum, but rather entombed in the frigid depths of Lake Michigan.
The cars, 268 of them, are lashed in rows inside and crumpled in a heap next to the wreck of the SS Senator, a Great Lakes steamship that rests for eternity in an uncharted sinkhole about 15 miles east of Port Washington, Wis."
