Bret Stephens' article on climate change costs New York Times subscribers - Business Insider

Bret Stephens' article on climate change costs New York Times subscribers - Business Insider:
Image result for Free Speech liberals"The New York Times' decision to publish a debut op-ed column by the newly-hired Bret Stephens, a notable denier of anthropogenic climate change, has sparked an uproar from the paper's subscribers, who are furious that the Times decided to publish a column that is contrary to much of the modern-day scientific consensus on the dangers of global warming.
In his column, Stephens compared the "certitude" with which Hillary Clinton's advisers believed she would win the 2016 election to climate scientists' repeated warnings about climate change risks.
As evidence, Stephens said that inaccurate polling data during the 2016 campaign proves that science can miss the mark in other fields as well.
"There’s a lesson here.
We live in a world in which data convey authority.
But authority has a way of descending to certitude, and certitude begets hubris," Stephens wrote.
Stephens' column evoked a swift and angry response from many of the paper's subscribers, who promptly canceled their subscriptions and bashed the Times' decision to hire Stephens as a writer.

Winter Blast Putting Climate Protests On Ice In Colorado – Western Wire
"The threat of a major snowstorm is already putting Denver-area climate marches on ice.
Image result for gobal warming snow stormWith the Washington Post reporting on how the “sweltering heat” in our nation’s capital is providing a relevant backdrop for the “People’s Climate March” tomorrow, the foot of snow expected in Colorado tomorrow has already postponed one of the several planned protests in the state.
Organized by groups seeking to ban the production of oil, natural gas, and coal, including 350.org, Sierra Club, and NextGen Climate, the “People’s Climate March” is occurring tomorrow in Washington, D.C., and cities across the country to protest the Trump administration’s environmental policies.
With the Washington protest reportedly expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees, hundreds of “sister marches” are planned for cities across the country.
But one out of the twelve protests in Colorado has already been postponed due to an impending snowstorm.
The National Weather Service’s winter storm warning projects six to 12 inches of snow, but there is potential for up to two feet in the Denver Metro Area..."

Obama lied – and now the truth - Israel National News

Image result for obama iran dealObama lied – and now the truth - Israel National News:
"So how much of our money did Obama ship to the terrorist regime in Iran? We hear $150 billion. We are not sure. Could be a dollar less, a dollar more.
We’ll never know for sure.
That’s because his entire administration operated in the dark.
That’s how he governed and that’s how he got himself elected, in lies and in stealth, and the news media did the rest.
They covered for him.
They let him get away with murder – and in this case, that is not a cliché, it’s fact.

He got himself elected, in lies and in stealth, and the news media did the rest. They covered for him.
Today, in eye-popping news, we learn, from the New York Post via Politico, that to sweeten the Iran nuke deal, Obama released Iranian-connected terrorists in order to keep the mullahs talking – which they were glad to do because the more they talked the more we gave and the more they took.
So seven terrorists were let loose; seven that were marked as a danger to our national security by Obama’s own State and Justice departments.
We’re not even talking about Israel’s national security. Iran paints “death to Israel” on its missiles.
Further, Obama dropped charges against 14 fugitives “involved in smuggling sophisticated weapons to Iran,” according to the published reports.
The question we have to ask is this – on whose side was Obama operating all those eight years?
Who were his friends and constituents, the people of America or the mullahs of Tehran?
A moment ago we mentioned the $150 billion.
Others say it was $33 billion.
Either way, we were assured that all that dough was owed; it was theirs but being held temporarily in our banks.
Who said so?
Obama said so.
That’s already suspicious.
Who asked?
Nobody asked – certainly not the press.
For all we know, the money was a gift, no escrow or whatever the legal term, but a bribe, or worse..."

Liberals Now Want To BAN Clapping, Cheering Because It's Offensive To... | The Federalist Papers:

Image result for free clip art Clapping"If Liberals have their way, we will not only be mute by 2020 but we won’t be able to move…because, some word or some movement could offend someone. It’s all very confusing. Let me explain.

So what is going on here? Liberals are very concerned how language is damaging and offensive. For these left wingers, free speech should no longer be an integral part of a free society. Heaven forbid someone says something that might “trigger” someone who isn’t in a “safe space.” Their feelings might get hurt. This situation–which we see most often on college campuses–has gotten much, much worse.

What is the latest development in liberal sensitivity? "

Climate change alarmists’ prediction about Pacific Northwest now looks embarrassingly bad – TheBlaze

Image result for wrong againClimate change alarmists’ prediction about Pacific Northwest now looks embarrassingly bad –
"During the past decade, a common theme in the research findings of climate alarmists studying California, Oregon, and Washington state has been reduced snowfall.
Some alarmists even lamented it could be “the end of snow,” as Porter Fox did for the New York Times in 2014.
Yet, despite these extreme predictions, which also blamed humans for burning the fossil fuels that caused the warmer temperatures, the 2017 winter has provided the region with greater snowfall, leaving climate change advocates looking more than just a little foolish.
According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, the snowpack in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains is the seventh-deepest it’s been since 1950 and the biggest since 2011.
“As of Thursday, the snowpack across the entire Sierra was at 164% of average for this time of year,” reported the Times.
“The northern region was at 147%, the central was at 175% and the southern was 164% of average, respectively, state data showed...”

“Barack Obama did not call us to our higher instinct,” he explained."

Trump Is More Trusted than Political Media | Power Line:

Image result for wikicommons images Donald Trump"Remember when reporters called Ronald Reagan the “Teflon president”? Then, too, they were frustrated that the mud they constantly flung at the president didn’t seem to stick. What was going on, in reality, was that voters weren’t particularly impressed by the press’s daily savaging of President Reagan. Reporters attributed this to some mysterious “Teflon” quality on the part of the president. In fact, the dynamic was much the same as what we see today with the press and President Trump.

Which doesn’t mean that it is helpful to be viciously attacked every day. It obviously isn’t. But when the press is so little trusted, diminishing returns set in pretty quickly."

"A disturbing trend has been emerging in my practice over recent years: More men are being diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer, and in some cases the cancer has already metastasized to the bones and become incurable.
It's a direct result, in my opinion, of 2012 guidelines by an influential government panel recommending against routine prostate cancer screening in men of all ages.
...Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men after skin cancer, affecting 1 in 7 males, according to the American Cancer Society (ACS).
More than 161,000 men are expected to be diagnosed with the disease this year and nearly 27,000 will die, according to the ACS.
By the numbers, prostate cancer and breast cancer..."

Leonard Fournette Christian McCaffrey start trend skipping bowl game NFL draft

Image result for bowl gamesLeonard Fournette Christian McCaffrey start trend skipping bowl game NFL draft:
"When Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette decided to skip their bowl games last December, nobody really knew how it would impact their NFL draft status, or that of future players considering the same choice.
We found out very quickly Thursday night -- with a rubber stamp of approval from the NFL.
All those who thought perhaps league executives would frown upon players abandoning their teams to get a jump on their NFL careers got a resounding answer.
Fournette and McCaffrey went early in the first round, anyway.
And that could have a far-ranging set of consequences that go beyond a few players.
It's a reality some coaches across the country confronted Friday as they weighed the potential fallout.
...Another Power 5 head coach summed it up this way: "For players who are going in the first round? This is just a start."
...Now here we are, trying to figure out whether two players have the ability to flip the entire college football system as we know it.
Because if more players decide to follow suit, what does that mean for bowl games?..."

"As an African who was subjected to FGM, now living in the West, allow me to help bridge that gap by explaining what we’re really talking about beneath the weasel words ‘genital cutting’.

There are five types of female genital mutilation performed on girls from as young as five years of age. Four of them are unarguably mutilation, and the other is designed to symbolize mutilation. I will start with the mildest.

The lies we were told about who would silence free speech - Chicago Tribune

The lies we were told about who would silence free speech - Chicago Tribune
"The lie we were told as kids was this: The end of American liberty would come at the hands of the political right.
Conservatives would take away our right to speak our minds, and use the power of government to silence dissent.
The right would intimidate our teachers and professors, and coerce the young.
And then, with the universities in thrall, with control of the apparatus of the state (and the education bureaucracy), the right would have dominion over a once-free people.
Image result for american thought policeSome of us were taught this in school.
Others, who couldn't be bothered to read books, were fed a cartoon version of the diabolical conservative in endless movies and TV shows.
The most entertaining of these were science fiction, sometimes with vague references to men in brown shirts and black boots goose-stepping in some future time.
...But the lie is obvious now, isn't it?
Because it is not conservatives who coerced today's young people or made them afraid of ideas that challenge them.
Conservatives did not shame people into silence, or send thugs out on college campuses to beat down those who wanted to speak.
The left did all that..."

AGW: when a scientific theory becomes a religion…
…then those with an opposing view become apostates.
That’s especially true if the topic is one with very high stakes, such as AGW (anthropogenic global warming).
Image result for settled scienceThink about it this way: if a person is—
(a) convinced that AGW has been proven beyond any doubt
(b) threatens life as we know it all over the globe; and
(c) can be halted and/or decreased by measures we understand and can control if only we had the will to implement them—then it follows that anyone who disagrees is a person who is endangering life on earth.
Science, of course, is not a religion, and the history of science is littered with theories that have been considered proven and then are disproven...
Which brings us to an article Bret Stephens wrote in his new venue, the NY Times
It was really a rather modest suggestion that people listen to both sides of the issue—not so much on AGW (which he himself seems to believe is true) as on whether we know enough to accurately predict the future of AGW and/or to fix the problems it may cause.
The Twitter storm this caused has been virulent.
But if AGW (and intervention to halt or slow its effects) is your religion, then someone like Stephens becomes the AGW devil.
Then this sort of response seems perfectly reasonable (if crass):
“You’re a s–thead. a crybaby lil f–kin weenie. a massive twat too,” tweeted Libby Watson, staff writer at Gizmodo.

“I’m gonna lose my mind,” seethed Eve Peyser, politics writer at Vice.

“The ideas ppl like @BretStephensNYT espouse are violently hateful & should not be given a platform by @NYTimes,” she said..."

The administration's actions, he argued, were all part of its larger goal of promoting the ideals of "the socialist Left, the Marxist Left," which seeks to tear down capitalism piece by piece and "nationalize economic decision making." The global warming "myth," said Levin, is one of the Left's key tools in promoting that destructive ideology. "

Trump revisits 'The Snake' poem at Pennsylvania rally

Trump revisits 'The Snake' poem at Pennsylvania rally:
"President Trump treated his supporters to a dramatic poetry reading Saturday night, delivering Al Wilson's ballad, "The Snake," at a Harrisburg, Pa., rally to commemorate his first 100 days in office.
During the campaign, Trump regularly recited the poem as a cautionary tale against allowing Syrian refugees to take advantage of American generosity.
The 569-word sonnet revolves around "a vicious snake" who repays "a tender woman" for her kindness with a vicious bite."
Read it below."

"The Snake" by Al Wilson (1968):
On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
"Poor thing," she cried, "I'll take you in and I'll take care of you"
"Take me in tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman," sighed the snake..."
