Price-gouging Maker of EpiPen Literally Said That Critics Can Go Fuck Themselves - Slashdot:
"Back in August of 2016, the pharmaceutical company Mylan came under fire for jacking up prices of the EpiPen from $57 in 2007 to roughly $600 in 2016.
The public backlash has been significant. Gizmodo adds:
But the chairman of Mylan has a message for any critics: Go fuck yourself.
Well, at least that's what we think he said.
The New York Times has a new article about the fact that prices for the live-saving allergy medication haven't actually come down since last year.
And the article has a rather strange way of describing the attitude of Mylan chairman Robert Coury.
This is how the New York Times describes Coury's reaction to critics of Mylan's price gouging:
"Mr. Coury replied that he was untroubled.
He raised both his middle fingers and explained, using colorful language, that anyone criticizing Mylan, including its employees, ought to go copulate with themselves.
Critics in Congress and on Wall Street, he said, should do the same.
And regulators at the Food and Drug Administration?
They, too, deserved a round of anatomically challenging self-fulfillment.""

Hypocrisy is hard!-----Liberals Place Muslims Above Gays in Oppression Hierarchy
Liberals Place Muslims Above Gays in Oppression Hierarchy:
"Last month, when Marine Le Pen refused to put on a headscarf for a meeting with Lebanon's “Grand Mufti,” a friend of mine, whom I'll call Dave, commended her for it on Facebook.
Dave, as it happens, is a Manhattan liberal who voted for Hillary Clinton, despises Donald Trump, and thinks Le Pen is a fascist.
But he's also a gay man who's very clear-eyed about the danger of Islam, especially to gay people, and who is angry at the left, both in the U.S. and Europe, for appeasing the Religion of Peace.
And so he gave Le Pen a thumbs-up for her gutsy action.
Since Dave's own friends list consists almost exclusively of other big-city liberal types, he was immediately savaged for his post on Le Pen.
One of them wrote that just because Muslim women decide to cover their hair or body doesn't mean they're oppressed, and added that Le Pen, by refusing to wear a headscarf, wasn't standing up for women but simply “trying to spread hate” towards Islam.
...Many of Dave's friends were livid at him for even daring to compliment Le Pen and criticize Islam.
...their responses made it clear that they'd fully accepted the current progressive pecking order among officially recognized oppressed groups: gays (especially affluent white gay American males such as Dave) are at the bottom of the ladder; Muslims are at the very top.
Which means that when gays criticize Islam, a decent progressive is supposed to scream “Islamophobe"; but when Muslims drop gays to their deaths off the roofs of buildings, one is expected to look away and change the topic..."

Trump & Paris Convention: Constitution Makes Withdrawal Necessary | National Review:
"The approval hurdle is high because the Constitution makes a ratified treaty the supreme law of the land — essentially, the equivalent of a congressional statute. The idea, then, is that no international compact should be imposed on the American people unless an overwhelming majority of elected officials in the upper chamber are convinced — to the point of willingness to cast an accountable vote for the proposition — that the compact serves the national interests of the United States."

More Bike Commuting, More Crashes & Skyrocketing Medical Bills | American Council on Science and Health:
"Bike riding, either for pleasure or as a way to commute to and from work, continues to reach new heights in popularity.
Cities and municipalities all over America are reconfiguring streets and roadways to accommodate existing riders, and to encourage non-riders to climb aboard to improve their fitness with added physical activity.

Cities and municipalities all over America are reconfiguring streets and roadways to accommodate existing riders, and to encourage non-riders to climb aboard to improve their fitness with added physical activity.
But given that cycling-related trips to hospitals and emergency departments across the country have increased dramatically, is it a fair question to ask:
Are the steep rise in accidents, and the billions of dollars in annual medical expenses and costs associated with them, worth this push towards expanded two-wheeled transportation?
This observation comes to the fore in the wake of a recent study of a 17-year period published in the journal Injury Prevention which stated that, "Each year, the total costs associated with non-fatal adult bicycle trauma increased by an average of $789 million," and that "Medical costs increased by 137% from $885 million in 1997 to $2.1 billion in 2013."...

Human health impact and cost estimates attributed to endocrine disrupting chemicals not evidence-based | Science Codex:
"Economic papers released in 2015 and 2016 estimated the burden of diseases attributable to exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), also known as environmental estrogens, and experts suspected right away that these calculations were flawed.
...Michigan-based epidemiologist Gregory G. Bond, Ph.D., Michigan, and toxicologist Professor Daniel R. Dietrich, Ph.D., University of Konstanz, uncovered substantial flaws in the underlying methodology of the economic papers, including
"We saw a disturbing disconnect between what the media was reporting about the cost estimates, and what scientific experts were saying about their potential flaws and limitations." said Bond.
...Dietrich says, "Frankly, we were surprised that the astronomical cost estimates contained in these reports didn't give more people pause.
In the past, media and scientific journals might have questioned incomprehensibly inflated data and refused to report it.
Today, the new norm has become, quite alarmingly, to support it or, worse, to accept manuscripts that report unproven findings of presumed effects one would like to see.
The sensational response that ensues might be a win for the authors and news outlets, but it is hardly a victory for public health or credible science as a whole..."

Should I take Tylenol or Advil? - Business Insider:
"You probably have at least three kinds of painkillers in your bathroom medicine cabinet, but they're not all designed to treat the same types of discomfort.
While some pain relievers are great at bringing down fevers, others, studies suggest, contain ingredients that are better for reducing the kind of painful swelling linked with muscle soreness or arthritis.

In addition, depending on your medical history and your diet, there may be certain over-the-counter medications that you should avoid.
Still, in some cases, any of the medications below may treat all of your symptoms.

Clint Eastwood -- Manliness & Civic Virtue in His Later Movies | National Review
Clint Eastwood -- Manliness & Civic Virtue in His Later Movies | National Review:
"With Eastwood, something of classical Hollywood returns. He wants a legacy, not as an artist or a businessman but as an American. He wants to show what American confidence is about at a remove from political institutions and the upper middle class, whose successes incline it to look to the future with hope.
This attempt to reveal heroism in the lives of Americans, and to portray it as both a source of confidence and a spur to gratitude, was the meaning of his last war movie, American Sniper (2014). It was not the number of confirmed kills or the prowess of the sniper that was paramount but the protagonist’s dedication to the lives of his fellow soldiers. "
