He proposed to pay for all that by hiking corporate tax rates from 17 to 26 percent and imposing punitive taxes on real estate and incomes over $100,000 a year.
Yes, the media was foursquare against Corbyn, just as May's advisers had optimistically assumed, and even a majority of his own party's members of parliament opposed his leadership.
But neither the press nor the politicians had a clue what the public thought.
The public weren't disliking Corbyn's platform as much as they were supposed to.
Corbyn would have been a terrible candidate in a national election if this were 1974, when he entered politics, or 1983, when he first got elected to Parliament.
He opposed the Falklands war and backed Fidel Castro, the IRA, and the PLO.

The murder, in which a knife-wielding black student, 21-year-old Kendrix White, stabbed several white peers before being arrested by police, came on the heels of repeated vandalism targeting Greek Life houses near the Austin campus, such as graffiti stating “racist rapists.”
“Vandals of UT,” the anonymous student group claiming responsibility, say their actions are a response to white supremacy and elitism and hope the graffiti serves as a warning to the university that underprivileged students are unafraid to fight back.
“We were responding to the everyday crisis that is rape culture, white supremacy, and elitism,” the group said in an April 21 statement posted at itsgoingdown.org.
“It is no accident that so many fraternities take the style of plantation homes—the institutions of Greek life are themselves colonial, bourgeois, patriarchal structures, founded to preserve the reproduction of elite classes.

"(Reuters) - The Clinton Foundation has confirmed it accepted a $1 million gift from Qatar while Hillary Clinton was U.S. secretary of state without informing the State Department, even though she had promised to let the agency review new or significantly increased support from foreign governments.
Qatari officials pledged the money in 2011 to mark the 65th birthday of Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton's husband, and sought to meet the former U.S. president in person the following year to present him the check, according to an email from a foundation official to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign chairman, John Podesta.The email, among thousands hacked from Podesta's account, was published last month by WikiLeaks.
Clinton signed an ethics agreement governing her family's globe-straddling foundation in order to become secretary of state in 2009.
The agreement was designed to increase transparency to avoid appearances that U.S. foreign policy could be swayed by wealthy donors.

"Wednesday morning saw the release of a scathing report from the House Oversight Committee that former Attorney General Eric Holder and the DOJ tried to hide the facts of the botched ‘Fast & Furious’ operation.
The operation, which involved allowing marked firearms to be sold in Phoenix-area shops with the intention of tracking them once they made their way to Mexico, went off the skids when 1400 of the 2000 guns used in the attempted sting went missing.
Two of them were recovered at the scene of Brian Terry’s death. Terry was a Border Patrol agent."
