Hurricanes, Rainfall, and Climate Change - Just Facts
Hurricanes, Rainfall, and Climate Change - Just Facts
The Claims
While Hurricane Irma was razing the Caribbean and barreling toward Florida, climate scientist David Hastings told the Washington Post, “Hurricane Harvey and Irma should resolve any doubt that climate change is real.” Likewise:
- CNN’s Ron Brownstein reported during Hurricane Harvey, “There is no doubt that climate change, particularly because of warming the ocean waters and the gulf waters, makes storms like this more common.”
- Meteorologist Eric Holthaus wrote in Politico that “climate change is making rainstorms everywhere worse, but particularly on the Gulf Coast.”
- The BBC’s Laura Trevelyan stated, “Of course we do have a changing climate we do have warming waters. With more warming waters, you get more moisture coming into the atmosphere, and what hurricanes absolutely love is moisture because that gives them rainfall. And that’s what’s happened in this situation with Hurricane Harvey...”
...Summary
Certain media outlets have linked hurricanes Harvey and Irma to global warming by ignoring wide-ranging facts and cherry-picking timeframes, geographical locations, report contents, and the opinions of scientists.
As explained in an academic book about analyzing data, “One of the worst abuses of analytics is to cherry pick results. Cherry pickers tout analysis findings when the results serve the purpose at hand. But, they ignore the findings when the results conflict with the original plan.”

"BETSY MCCAUGHEY: Democrats’ latest bid to rig election rules.
Democrats claim Wisconsin’s election map puts them at a disadvantage by packing their voters into too few election districts, “wasting” their votes and allowing Republicans to win the majority of districts. But the real problem isn’t an unfair map. It’s that Wisconsin Democrats are concentrated in cities. In many states, Democrats tend to win urban voters and do less well with suburban and rural voters. Wisconsin Democrats want the lines redrawn so their urban voters can capture a majority of the state’s legislative seats — and they’re asking the Supreme Court to help them. It’s a brazen political gambit disguised as fairness. They claim to be victims of gerrymandering — drawing election districts to favor one party. But they’re not opposed to gerrymandering. They just want it to favor them.
They hope a Supreme Court victory will restore their political fortunes after the 2020 Census, when states have to redraw their electoral maps.If Democrats prevail in court, the nation’s political map could change significantly after the Census, with many statehouses flipped to Democratic control.
Give credit where it’s due: Democrats play hardball, and they play it for keeps."

Hillary Clinton: No 'Absolution' For People Who Didn't Vote For Me | Daily Wire:
"The math, of course, doesn't work out. Hillary's core demographic, older white women, voted in smaller numbers for the "First Female President" than they did for Barack Obama. And Clinton's fatal mistake was counting on free votes, even though voters clearly expected her to earn their allegiance. She simply took her people for granted. It's not their fault they didn't work harder; it's her fault she didn't work harder. She should be seeking absolution from them."

Why Cassini Is Ending Its Life with a Kamikaze Plunge:
"...It’s the possibility of contaminating Saturn’s moons, though, that is the more interesting motivation for what NASA has been calling Cassini’s “Grand Finale.”
“Whenever NASA plans any missions, they always include plans for what we call spacecraft disposal,” said Morgan Cable, a NASA research scientist working on the Cassini mission.
Even the best sterilization methods can leave some bacterial spores behind, which can survive in space for years in a sort of hibernation.
“We have to follow that planetary protection rule of trying not to leave any evidence of Earth-based life anywhere that we’re trying to look for other types of life.”
Saturn, a gas giant, doesn’t have conditions suitable for life, so there’s no worry there.
“The worst thing would be going to say, Enceladus, or Titan, and finding life and realizing that we put it there with Cassini or one of our previous missions,” Cable said.
“‘Are we alone? ‘Is there other life in solar system?’ We want the real answer, not the ‘oops’ answer.”..."

"Federal law enforcement agents working the Imran Awan and Hina Alvi fraud probe said the couple, along with other members of the family, were never properly vetted for Congressional security clearances.
Instead the clearances, which provided the Awans access to dozens of Congressional Democrats computer networks and IT systems, were likely approved absent each individual background file getting “fully investigated.”

Voting machines can be hacked without evidence, commission is told - Washington Times
Voting machines can be hacked without evidence, commission is told - Washington Times:
"The country’s voting machines are susceptible to hacking, which could be done in a way so that it leaves no fingerprints, making it impossible to know whether the outcome was changed, computer experts told President Trump’s voter integrity commission Tuesday.
The testimony marked a departure for the commission, which was formed to look into fraud and barriers to voting, but which heard that a potentially greater threat to confidence in American elections is the chance for enemy actors to meddle.
“There’s no perfect security; there’s only degrees of insecurity,” said Ronald Rivest, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He said hackers have myriad ways of attacking voting machines.
“You don’t want to rest the election of the president on, ‘Maybe the Wi-Fi was turned on when it shouldn’t have been.’”
He and two other computer security experts said bar codes on ballots and smartphones in voting locations could give hackers a chance to rewrite results in ways that couldn’t be traceable, short of sampling of ballots or hand recounts — and those work only in cases where there’s a paper trail..."

Fennville coach suspended for grabbing player | WOODTV.com:
"FENNVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — Fennville Public Schools suspended its head football coach for two games after he manhandled a player during a game last week.
The incident happened during a game at Coloma Friday following what Superintendent Jim Greydanus described as an “intense interaction on the field between the teams.”
A statement from the superintendent released Tuesday said coach Brian Sackett admitted he grabbed a player’s pads and shouted at him, then pushed the player toward the bench.
Shortly thereafter, Sackett apologized to the player and “encouraged him to get back into the game as soon as he was ready,” the statement said in part.
The district said what it found in its investigation lined up with Sackett’s story.
“In responding to this incident, Fennville Public Schools seeks to maintain standards of accountability while allowing for restoration of relationships,” Greydanus’ statement concluded.
“We remain committed to providing the best possible experience for our athletes.”
Assistant coaches will be in charge while Sackett is on suspension."

'KNOWN WOLF' TERROR SCANDAL: CIA Knew About 9-11 Hijackers, Didn't Provide Intel to FBI | Homeland Security:
"As I've recounted in more than 30 articles here at PJ Media over the past three years, virtually every Islamic terrorist who has conducted an attack in the West since 9/11 has already been known to authorities, which prompted me to coin the phrase "known wolf" terrorism.
Amidst the commemoration of the 16th anniversary of 9/11, it bears recalling that 9/11 itself was a "known wolf" attack, too.
The CIA had intelligence that two Saudi 9/11 hijackers were living in the United States, but they deliberately refused to share the information with the FBI.
The FBI had authority to act on such information and possibly prevent the 9/11 attacks...
In many respects, the 3,000 Americans killed on 9/11 were not only the victims of al-Qaeda terrorists, but also bureaucratic incompetence and inter-governmental turf wars.

Well, none were.
The CIA sitting on critical intelligence until just days before the attack was couched in the larger excuse of "intelligence failures," and swept under the rug.
Some of what we know about the CIA's pre-9/11 intelligence about the hijackers comes from a joint congressional inquiry several years after the attacks.

Some of what we know about the CIA's pre-9/11 intelligence about the hijackers comes from a joint congressional inquiry several years after the attacks.
But the most revealing information has come from former FBI agent Mark Rossini, who -- though an FBI agent -- was assigned to the CIA and prevented from sharing the information with his colleagues.
