UK: Jail People For Far-Right Propaganda | The Daily Caller
UK: Jail People For Far-Right Propaganda | The Daily Caller:
"The United Kingdom is responding to its severe terror threat with a proposal of lengthy jail sentences for anyone who views “terrorist content” online.
Specifically, sentences of 15 years in prison for such an offense.
But what might constitute terrorist content? According to British Home Secretary Amber Rudd, that concept includes “far-right propaganda.”"

"President Trump got bad advice about the secession crisis in Catalonia.
When Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy visited the White House last week, he said that Spain's northeastern region would be "foolish to secede."
On the contrary, the gutsy Catalans are the world's poster-boy for populism.
Their independence movement is a real revolution.
America shouldn't meddle in Spain's internal affairs, to be sure, but we ought to recognize a kindred political movement when we see it.
Ultimately, the Catalan independence movement is a response to Europe's demographic cataclysm..."

Rice University adds a bit of asphalt to speed lithium metal battery charging by 20 times | NextBigFuture.com:
"A touch of asphalt may be the secret to high-capacity lithium metal batteries that charge 10 to 20 times faster than commercial lithium-ion batteries, according to Rice University scientists.
The Rice lab of chemist James Tour developed anodes comprising porous carbon made from asphalt that showed exceptional stability after more than 500 charge-discharge cycles.
...The material was developed at Rice University and shows promise for high-capacity lithium batteries that charge 20 times faster than commercial lithium-ion batteries.
“The capacity of these batteries is enormous, but what is equally remarkable is that we can bring them from zero charge to full charge in five minutes, rather than the typical two hours or more needed with other batteries,” Tour said..."

The Tragic Incoherence of the NFL Protests – American Greatness
The Tragic Incoherence of the NFL Protests – American Greatness:
"To answer that question, one would have to know precisely what the protests are about. But so far the various reasons advanced are both confused and without much merit. That is why the players will eventually stand for the anthem before their tragic incoherence loses them both their fans and their jobs with it."

"In an effort to fight climate change, cities and states have joined with private solar and energy efficiency companies to create a loan program, the Property Assessed Clean Energy program (PACE), which finances energy efficiency upgrades and solar panels on low income homes without means testing or truth-in-lending requirements.
Paul Blair, strategic initiatives director with Americans for Tax Reform, discusses how homeowners on fixed incomes unable to pay their tax burden -- the cost of the upgrades are rolled into their property taxes -- are finding themselves homeless, as cities take over the homes for unpaid taxes, and banks and cities (and thus taxpayers) are left holding the bag. Cities and states that started this boondoggle are now shutting down the program, which does nothing to prevent climate change."

Here Are The Actual Federal Laws Regulating Machine Guns In The U.S. - The Federalist:
"While the desire to prevent atrocities like the one committed in Las Vegas is both understandable and good, it is impossible to have a reasoned discussion on the best ways to prevent mass attacks when emotions, rather than facts, are the foundation for debate. Here are the facts on federal regulation of machine guns and fully automatic weapons in the United States.
Federal law highly regulates the manufacture, sale, and ownership of fully automatic weapons in the United States. "

Happy Anniversary Tax Hikers [Michigan Capitol Confidential]
Happy Anniversary Tax Hikers [Michigan Capitol Confidential]:
"Mark Twain is alleged to have said, “I saw an unusual thing today; it was a politician with his hands in his own pockets.”
With the start of the new fiscal year this week, voters should pause and reflect on the umpteenth time Lansing politicians reached deeper into taxpayers’ pockets.
It is the 10th anniversary of the 11.5 percent personal income tax hike imposed on Michiganders.
It came with the promise that it was a temporary increase that would be rolled back when the economy got better.
It was not.
Taxpayers were betrayed.
The full reduction never came and we are still owed a rollback to 3.9 percent, the rate of a decade ago.
It is never easy to be Charlie Brown to anyone’s Lucy.
Having a football pulled away right before you kick it — despite assurances it would not be — is embarrassing..."

40 percent of US cancers linked to excess weight | AFP.com:
"About 40 percent of all cancers in the United States -- more than 630,000 in all -- are associated with excess weight, health officials said Tuesday, urging a renewed focus on prevention.
In a nation where 71 percent of adults are either overweight or obese, the findings by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention "are a cause for concern," said the agency's director Brenda Fitzgerald.
"A majority of American adults weigh more than recommended -– and being overweight or obese puts people at higher risk for a number of cancers," she said in a statement.
"By getting to and keeping a healthy weight, we all can play a role in cancer prevention."...
Women were particularly susceptible, with 55 percent of all cancers diagnosed in women associated with weight, compared to 24 percent of those diagnosed in men..."

NFL Ratings Are In — And They Aren't Pretty | Daily Wire:

No Names in State Budget, But 36 Recipients Getting $38 Million [Michigan Capitol Confidential]
No Names in State Budget, But 36 Recipients Getting $38 Million [Michigan Capitol Confidential]: "'...Taxpayers cannot tell from reading the state budget that just went into effect which 36 organizations and municipalities are sharing $38.6 million worth of state tax revenue under a special one-time line item.
That’s because legislators have a way of getting their pet projects paid for without naming names — or running afoul of the Michigan Constitution.
Rather than name the cities or counties that get the state tax revenue, beneficiaries are described by census data.
One recipient, for example, is the Sanilac County Fairgrounds in Sandusky.
It is getting $35,000 for a “Miracle of Life” birthing barn, but the name of the fairground is nowhere to be found.
Here’s how the payment is described in the Michigan Enhancement Grants section of this year’s budget bill:
“From the one-time fund appropriated in part 1 for Michigan enhancement grants, $35,000 shall be awarded for a birthing barn at a county fairgrounds located in a county with a population of between 43,000 and 43,300, according to the most recent federal decennial census.”
That lengthy description does not name the county.
If it did, it would be considered a “local act” under the state constitution — and local acts need a two-thirds vote to pass.
The same device is used to designate the Grand Rapids Civic Theater for a payment of $1 million..."
