Commission urges Washington and Lee University: Don’t change the school’s name - The College Fix:
"Panel says school should focus on others ways to ‘teach and present the university’s history’

A panel appointed by Washington and Lee University to study its history and the impact it has on the institution has recommended that the university retain its name, despite some controversy in the university’s being partly named after the Confederate war general Robert E. Lee.

“The recommendation to retain the name is not passive,” said the commission. 
...“As the ninth-oldest institution of higher education in the country, Washington and Lee is a justifiably proud university that can withstand careful scrutiny,” said Dudley. 
...Other recommendations made by the committee include retaining the name of the teams as “The Generals” despite the claim that some believe it is directly referring to Washington and Lee, converting Lee Chapel into a museum and not having it be used for key events and displaying portraits of Lee in civilian attire rather than his Confederate uniform..."

The same news agency that reported that story published alarming new revelations in the case this month, concluding that “Democrats appear to want to keep the case out of court” because “a trial could expose their reckless IT practices.” It turns out that, not only has Capitol Police failed to make any arrests, it inadvertently gave evidence to defense attorneys that was supposed to go to prosecutors. It gets better; prosecutors appear to be sharing information with someone on Capitol Hill who in turn is leaking it to Awan’s lawyer."

"Reports of anxiety, depression leading to special privileges like longer test-times

The number of college students reporting psychological disorders and handicaps has jumped significantly in recent years, with upwards of 25% of first-year students reporting some sort of mental disorder, a classification which often grants them special privileges in the classroom.

“[W]hile all claimed disabilities have ticked up since 2010, the biggest jump has been in self-described ‘psychological disorders’,” write Joy Pullmann at The Federalist.

... As well, from 2011 to 2016, “the number of students with special accommodations increased by an average of 71% among 22 flagship state schools.”
As Pullmann points out, “huge percentages of college students say they feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, even suicidal. 

Colleges are responding by installing live-in counselors in dorms and hiking fees to pay for additional psychological health staff.”...

Diversity Policies Are Corrupting the Sciences - Minding The Campus
"Anyone who believes that the hard sciences could never capitulate to identity politics in the way the humanities and softer sciences have should not read Heather MacDonald’s report just posted at City Journal. 
It’s too infuriating, and the impacts could be devastating.
MacDonald surveys the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and accrediting organizations such as the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and finds the quota police alive and well within them.
The NSF, for instance, “dumps millions of dollars into implicit-bias activism,” a pseudo-scientific effort to explain lack of proportionate numbers of women and certain minorities in STEM fields on the grounds of racism and sexism. 
It has other programs that “pressure actual science grantees to incorporate diversity considerations into their research.” 
uch programs aim to set “inclusion and equity” at “the very core” of STEM science.
The NIH puts similar burdens on the field. Its training grants for postdoctoral education for physicians are threatened with funding cuts if the programs don’t support “a sufficient number of ‘underrepresented minorities.'” 
It also wants to see proportionate representation in the sample of medical subjects...
...but the percentage of doctorates in STEM fields granted to African Americans each year is under four percent. 
he applicant pool isn’t nearly large enough for departments to reach proportionality in the demographic make-up of the professors (using the population of the surrounding geographic area as a base measure)...
