House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is pushing the mantra of an “epidemic of gun violence” even as the overall murder rate falls.
Moreover, the decline comes as more and more Americans own and carry firearms for self-defense.
The NRA-ILA reports, “Since 1991, the murder rate has fallen by 45 percent and the overall violent crime rate has fallen by 48 percent.” The NRA-ILA’s claim squares with a Congressional Research Service (CRS) report that showed murder rates plummeting as gun ownership surged.

When the home of Nikki Joly burned down in 2017, killing five pets, the FBI investigated it as a hate crime.

After all, the transgender man and gay rights activist had received threats after having a banner year in this conservative town.

In the prior six months, he helped open the city’s first gay community center, organized the first gay festival and, after 18 years of failed attempts, helped lead a bruising battle for an ordinance that prohibits discrimination against gays.

For his efforts, a local paper named him the Citizen of the Year.

Authorities later determined the fire was intentionally set, but the person they arrested came as a shock to both supporters and opponents of the gay rights movement. It was the citizen of the year — Nikki Joly.

“It’s embarrassing,” said Travis Trombley, a gay resident who fought for the ordinance. “How do you do it to the community you have put so much effort into helping?”

For the coveted victim status?

It's pretty clear that she regards herself as a fount of insight and wisdom, apparently because her education at Boston University and 29 years of life experience have provided discernment superior to that available to the rest of us — so much so that her random thoughts while cooking are worthy of mass dissemination via livestream video.
She came up with some primo idiocy on the livestream, delivered while she endangered herself with careless knifework (see below) in her kitchen.
The most egregious pseudo-wisdom was her cogitation that maybe we shouldn't be having kids because "there's scientific consensus that the lives of children will be very difficult."

I don’t even know what to say about Jussie Smollett. His story has seemed suspect for days now but I genuinely thought no one, and especially no one that famous, could make something like that up.

More baffling to us than a hate crime hoax is that people would find such hoaxes baffling. 

Lying is hardly uncommon in our species, and false claims of victimhood, like other lies, become more common when they provide some advantage to the liar and when they’re likely to be believed. 
That hate crime hoaxes seem strange or the motives unclear might simply be due to a lack of familiarity with them and with their social context. 
If you want to understand them better, here are three things to know.

• First of all, hate crime hoaxes aren’t new or unusual. 

• Even fairly incompetent hoaxes might therefore succeed, which brings us to our second point: Hate crime hoaxes aren’t hard to pull off. Long term cultural trends matter, too, and the third thing to know is that hate crime hoaxes thrive in a culture of victimhood. .."

Ten wealthy liberal foundations gave another $51 million over eight years to the Club and other environmentalist groups to battle coal.

Over a 12-year period, the (EPA) Environmental Protection Agency gave its 15 Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee members $181 million in grants – and in exchange received quick rubberstamp approvals of various air quality rules. 
It paid the American Lung Association $20 million to support its regulations.
During the Obama years, the EPA, Interior Department and other federal agencies paid environmental pressure groups tens of millions in collusive, secretive sue-and-settle lawsuit payoffs on dozens of issues.

Then we get to the really big money: taxpayer funds that government agencies hand out to scientists, computer modelers and pressure groups – to promote global warming and climate change alarmism.

As Heritage Foundation economist Stephen Moore noted recently, citing government and other reports:

* Federal funding for climate change research, technology, international assistance, and adaptation has increased from $2.4 billion in 1993 to $11.6 billion in 2014, with an additional $26.1 billion for climate change programs and activities provided by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act...

Who will bell the cat?
Not the police, and I don’t blame them.
Smollett is a vocal critic of President Donald Trump who checks two protected-category boxes: He is gay and he is black.
No police officer comes out ahead in any encounter in which he has to explain that he isn’t a racist or a gay-basher.
There isn’t much evidence that racist or homophobic attacks have increased in the Age of MAGA — partly because such episodes are so vanishingly rare in the United States that they are difficult to measure — but this is one of those things that everybody knows with such unshakable certainty that nobody really ever bothers to check.
Imagine being the first cop to catch a whiff of baloney on Smollett’s tale of martyrdom.
Saying as much — especially in a city such as Chicago — would be to put one’s career on the line..."
