Bryce Harper will save tens of millions in taxes by spurning the Dodgers and Giants :: Grabien News:
"For Major League Baseball players, three teams are at the bottom of the standings on state taxes: the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants.
That’s because California is in a league of its own on personal income taxes.
We’ve got by far the highest state rate in the nation, topping out at 13.3%.
By contrast, Pennsylvania has a low flat rate for every taxpayer regardless of income.
It’s just 3.07%.
That’s one reason why superstar slugger Bryce Harper signed an eye-popping 13-year, $330-million contract last week with the Philadelphia Phillies, spurning the Dodgers and Giants.
It was the largest free-agent deal in the history of North American sports."

"Last night a federal judge sentenced Paul Manafort, who is 69 years old, to 47 months in prison for financial crimes Special Counsel Robert Mueller uncovered during his probe into the Trump campaign's interactions with Russia.
The major media — which had been hyping the former Trump campaign manager "spending the rest of his life prison" — was, to put it plainly, furious.
Reporters and anchors angrily decried the sentencing as a mockery of justice, claiming it was an example of racism at work.
MSNBC's Eddie Glaude Jr. said the sentence shows white people “matter more” than others.
"Look, the sentencing gap reflects what I call the value gap," Glaude said. "Underneath the sentencing gap, just as underneath the empathy gap and the wealth gap is the value gap. And the value gap is the belief that white people matter more than others, particularly white people with money matter more than others.
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough attacked the judge for “damaging American democracy” and acting like a Trump fanatic...
And that’s just a sampling.

And it is our understanding that other students have been punished as well for expressing similar viewpoints."
Last Friday, Perry High School in Gilbert, Ariz., suspended student Logan Jones after a security officer reprimanded her as she posed for photos in a "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) sweater while holding a pro-Trump "Make America Great Again" flag.
...According to the demand letter, Jones and her friends had dressed in patriotic and USA-themed clothing for a "Party in the USA Day" on Friday of Spirit Week.
"Immediately after school was dismissed at 2:14 p.m., [Jones] and a few of her friends went to one of the outdoor common areas of campus to take pictures together before they went home," the letter reads.
"This is a common practice for [Jones] and many other students and it happens virtually every day after school without any interference by school officials.
Less than five minutes after they arrived, while [Jones] and her friend were taking a picture in their MAGA sweatshirts and holding a flag that said 'Trump' and 'Make America Great Again,' a School Resource Officer approached and ordered [Jones] and her friends to leave."

Jones immediately obeyed and started packing up to leave.
The officer took photos of her and her friends with his phone, began following her as she left campus, and then ordered her to give him her name.
Jones asked why he needed her name, as she was complying with his order.
At that point, the officer told her to speak with Vice Principal Heather Patterson.
Jones called her mother and told her about the situation.
Her mother said she would come to the school herself and told Jones not to speak with anyone until she arrived.
At the office, Jones was again asked to give her name.
She "politely replied that her mother was on her way to the office and that her mother had instructed her not to answer any questions until she arrived."

She "politely replied that her mother was on her way to the office and that her mother had instructed her not to answer any questions until she arrived."
Once the mother arrived, a brief discussion ensued between the mother, Principal Dan Serrano, Vice Principal Patterson, and the officer. Principal Serrano left, saying, "I am tired of hearing this. Logan Jones, you are suspended for 10 days. Get off of school property."
Jones was allegedly suspended for failing to identify herself to school officials, yet ADF argued that "this reason was mere pretext."
"Contrary to the stated reason, there is ample evidence to establish that you imposed the suspension against [Jones] based on a disagreement with the viewpoint of [Jones's] message," the letter states.
"Multiple videos demonstrate the hostility that School officials displayed towards the messages expressing support for President Trump and his MAGA slogan. And it is our understanding that other students have been punished as well for expressing similar viewpoints."
"This blatant censorship of [Jones's] speech violates the First Amendment," the letter declares..."

"Among the many, many things that starkly define the differences between the Left and the right, none is more wretched than the difference in how they approach life.
Leftists, even when they are in power, are generally miserable, discontent with America as it was founded and as it is, always banging their heads against some perceived wall.
The right, on the other hand, is characterized by general good-natured love of country and the quest to save America from the radical left's reprehensible appropriation of the culture, academia, the media, and entertainment.
Conservative people revel in their families, work, and self-reliance and their good fortune to be Americans.
They are grateful people.
...The Left wants people to suffer; that is its goal.
That is how incandescent leftists are with hatred for the American people, especially those who voted for Trump and are still happy they did.
The cheerless Left has troubled its own house and will inherit the wind.
The people of the right, and those who have since realized that joy is a good thing, are thrilled by what Trump has accomplished in two years and will re-elect the man with ease."

Science Magazine goes nuts over Happer Committee | CFACT:
"In case you missed it, the US National Security Council has floated a proposal to form a Presidential Committee that will take a hard look at some of the climate change alarmist reports coming out of the federal agencies.
I reported that important event here.
The effort is being led by physicist Will Happer, a well known skeptic.
Not surprisingly, the climate alarmists are apoplectic at the very thought that a group of scientists might examine their cherished alarms.
The prestigious magazine/journal “Science” has been a leader in expressing outrage, in a way that clearly shows that they have no idea what is going on.
Their confusion is a fine example of why the Happer Committee is sorely needed.
When a supposedly great scientific publication cannot understand the situation it is worth a closer look.
It turns out Science Mag is operating under a simple fallacy.
We might even call it the “alarmist fallacy” since most alarmists fall for it.
...The alarmist fallacy is journalism ruined by advocacy.

Democrats Need Stupid Voters:
Remember Jonathan Gruber, the chief architect of ObamaCare?
The economics professor from MIT had bragged the law was deliberately written in tortured and confusing language in order to fool the American voter and famously said, “lack of transparency was a huge political advantage.” Gruber also sneered that the overall strategy to have the bill passed into law “depended on the stupidity of the American voter.”
How could Gruber be confident that enough voters would be so stupid as to support Democratic efforts to take control of our healthcare?

The goal is not to win the argument, at least not anytime soon. Yet merely by refusing to fold, Omar stands to shift the range of acceptable discussion — the so-called Overton window — sharply in her direction. I don’t think Democrats much care if they lose the Jewish vote, because the number of Jews in the US is small and highly concentrated in places that are and will remain Democratic enclaves even without the Jewish vote. Millennial Repo: Car Loan Defaults on the Rise | The American Spectator
"An interesting data nugget percolated the other day about a “sharp worsening” — that is to say, an increase — in the number of car loan defaults among borrowers under 30 years old.
According to Bloomberg Financial News, the rate for the Millennial demographic was 4.04 percent last quarter vs. 2.36 for the general population, or about twice as high.
But it’s not just The Youth who are in danger of having their cars repo’d.
The overall delinquency rate last quarter was at its highest level since 2012 — and the total number of car loans (new and used) as well as leases is up by 5.2 percent.
More people, in other words, are buying cars they can’t afford.
What’s especially interesting is that the increase in delinquencies isn’t happening in parallel with a recession.
Unemployment is at a 50-year low.
People aren’t defaulting on their car loans because they lost their jobs..."

Multiple cars trapped under 15 feet of snow after massive avalanche near Copper Mountain | SummitDaily.com:
"UPDATE at 6:10 p.m.: According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, four cars were caught in the avalanche on CO 91, though there were no injuries.
The department said that it was the first ever recorded avalanche on Resolute Cliff, an area CDOT has never performed mitigation work.
UPDATE at 4:39p.m.: Colin Remillard, a spokesperson with Colorado State Patrol, said that in addition to the massive avalanche that trapped cars on CO 91, there were “multiple” others in the same area. Where exactly they occurred or to what extent is currently unknown.
Charles Pitman, spokesperson with the Summit Rescue Group, said that it’s still unclear how many cars were trapped in the slide on CO 91, but said at least one vehicle was turned completely upside down and totally buried. The driver has been extricated, and no injuries have been reported.

At about 4 p.m. today a massive avalanche hit State Highway 91 by milepost 21, near Copper Mountain. Multiple cars were trapped in the slide, though there are no reports of injuries.
The avalanche covered about 300 feet of the roadway, with snow about 15 feet deep, said Colin Remillard, a spokesman with the Colorado State Patrol. Remillard said that at least two cars and as many as four were trapped in the slide. The people inside the cars were rescued, though the cars are still trapped in the roadway.
Remillard said Colorado State Patrol is expecting a “very extended” closure."

No to Green New Deal. Yes to Media New Deal! - WND:
You hear it every day – from all the Democratic presidential candidates and 98 percent of the media: The existential threat facing America and the world is … climate change. They are in agreement that we must adopt a radical new lifestyle of coercive government control, stop using gas-powered cars and trucks, do without air travel, stop raising children.
But in truth we don’t need to adopt a Green New Deal to save the planet.
We need to adopt a Media New Deal to save free speech, the free press, freedom of religion and free elections.
That’s what we need.
And we don’t have 10 or 12 years to do it. We may only have until 2020.
America’s freedom has never faced a greater threat. The Democratic Party leadership is now dominated by openly brazen socialists and semi-closeted ones. The Big Media are in the tank for them as never before. And, this time, the biggest and most powerful tech monopolies in the world are censoring dissent, actively destroying the independent media, subverting President Trump at every turn and plotting a putsch for a radical New World Order.
I know I may sound a little … out there today.
But hear me out.

Yeah, this looks like a border crisis
Yeah, this looks like a border crisis:
More than 76,000 migrants crossed the southern border illegally last month, the highest number in 12 years. So much for all those media “fact checks” arguing that there’s no emergency to justify President Trump’s wall.
Immigration officials say the number is only going to increase, creating what Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan warns is “a border security and a humanitarian crisis.”
Why are they coming in such vast numbers? Because smugglers have put them wise to how to take advantage of recent court decisions to claim asylum and remain here indefinitely.

"Fraudsters can be said to suffer from “Groupthink,” a way of thinking where a group of individuals reaches a conclusion that is thought to be correct, whether it is or not.
Fraudsters tend to think that they deserve to receive government benefits when they really don’t.
In their own mind, they justify this dysfunctional line of thinking and commit criminal acts that steal from others.
A Cheyenne, Wyoming psychologist and his wife were part of the erroneous opinion that they deserved to collect more money than they deserved from the Wyoming Medicaid program.
They stole $6.2 million from the government health program in a healthcare fraud billing scam that targeted patients who supposedly received group therapy.
...Today’s fraud case is a good example of why it’s not always a good idea to go along with the group. (While fraudsters widely conclude that they will get away with stealing taxpayer dollars, their group mentality is flawed.)
Ironically, they are bound for prison where they will become a part of an even wider group of flawed thinkers..."
