Michael Smith--The Spark That Finally Ignites The Secession Conflagration | The Rio Norte Line

"On his Friday radio show, conservative talker and Fox News host Sean Hannity warned that the United States may fall apart if tax rates remain high.
...While I would prefer that we actually govern ourselves under a true federalist national model as the Founders intended, I’m beginning to believe that is going to be impossible.
...I think think the catalyst, the spark that sets the whole shebang aflame and finally pushes this over the edge will be what comes of three things that I was thinking about when reading about Hannity’s statements:

  • States with lower tax rates are going to draw greater populations and more revenue generating businesses,
  • They are going to object to paying for the spending in the spendthrift states,
  • Population and business shifts will deplete the tax base of states with entrenched governments, unfunded pension liabilities and powerful public sector unions, thereby exacerbating the problems in states like Illinois, New York and California.
I predict that the straw that finally breaks the camel’s back will be a lawsuit, one filed by a high tax state like California against states that have low or no state income or property tax rates because they are unfairly “pricing” their states, the effect of which is to rob the high tax states of the taxpayers necessary to support their respective state governments.
If the burden is increased in one state by out-migration to another, that will be called “unfair” and I think these states will turn to the courts for a remedy.
...The battle lines are about to be drawn in a little more stark relief.
Mark my words, we are headed for a crisis of constitutional proportions and it will be started by a lawsuit."

Hawaii coronavirus, travel restrictions trigger record unemployment
"For 32 years, Julie Gabot drove more than 80 miles round trip each day to work as a housekeeper at the Sheraton Waikiki, cleaning after tourists who enjoyed the resort's infinity pool and beachfront views.
But after tourism across Hawaii shutdown because of the coronavirus virus, she was let go without severance.
Her husband, who worked at the resort for 28 years, was out also out of a job.
..."Our life is in danger because, of course, we don't know what will happen," she said.
"There's no real hope for good things in the future."
Hawaii is facing it's highest unemployment rate ever as strict stay-at-home orders and a virtual shutdown of the state's once mighty tourism industry have left residents reeling, leaning on their savings or unable to pay rent and feed their families.
Since March, the state's unemployment rate has soared from 3% to 34%, one of the highest in the nation...

Attorney General William Barr said in an interview aired Friday that special counsel Robert Mueller and his investigators “ignored” evidence of possible Russian disinformation in the Steele dossier.

Here are the Chinese 'propaganda' centers currently operating in the US
"...For years, Campus Reform has reported on the number of Confucius Institutes on U.S. college campuses.
Funded by the communist regime, these centers are marketed as Chinese language and culture centers.
However, U.S. intelligence officials have warned that these centers are little more than "propaganda" arms of the communist country.

Even the former Chinese propaganda minister,  Liu Yushan, wrote in a 2010 article for Chinese-state media, “With regard to key issues that influence our sovereignty and safety, we should actively carry out international propaganda battles against issuers such as Tibet, Xinjiang, Taiwan, human rights and Falun Gong. … We should do well in establishing and operating overseas cultural centers and Confucius Institutes," Politico reported in 2018...

Of course, the story ultimately blames Trump-----He Had Never Sold a Ventilator. N.Y. Gave Him an $86 Million Deal. - The New York Times

He Had Never Sold a Ventilator. N.Y. Gave Him an $86 Million Deal. - The New York Times:
  • An engineer landed one of the state’s biggest coronavirus-related contracts after FEMA volunteers forwarded his name.
Image result for trump's fault"The offer to the Federal Emergency Management Agency sounded promising: A Silicon Valley engineer said that he could deliver thousands of ventilators from manufacturers across China to help hospitals treat coronavirus patients.
...“And the engineer, Yaron Oren-Pines, had no apparent background in procuring medical equipment.
Federal officials passed on the vendor’s information to senior officials in New York and, within days, the state struck a deal to buy 1,450 ventilators from Mr. Oren-Pines for $86 million, one of the largest contracts for medical supplies since the outbreak.
The deal, however, began to unravel as quickly as it had come together.
...But interviews with state and federal officials, as well as emails obtained by The New York Times, underscore how the challenges of a pandemic may have clouded a decision that placed millions of taxpayer dollars at risk...

"It's like deja vu talking to people about macroeconomic models a decade ago...
..."It is not as if Ferguson’s track record is good.
In 2001 the Imperial College team’s modelling led to the culling of 6 million livestock and was criticised by epidemiological experts as severely flawed.
In various years in the early 2000s Ferguson predicted up to 136,000 deaths from mad cow disease, 200 million from bird flu and 65,000 from swine flu.
The final death toll in each case was in the hundreds.
In this case, when a Swedish team applied the modified model that Imperial put into the public domain to Sweden’s strategy, it predicted 40,000 deaths by May 1 – 15 times too high."

Coming to America?-----The Netherlands Legalizes Euthanasia, Even Against The Patient's Will

News ImageThe Netherlands Legalizes Euthanasia, Even Against The Patient's Will
"In a case that marks a new descent into the darkness for humanity, the Dutch Supreme Court ruled that a doctor who euthanized an elderly patient with dementia against her expressed wishes and while her family forcibly restrained her was innocent of any wrongdoing.
...Lower Dutch courts acquitted the doctor of wrongdoing and prosecutors dropped the charges.
...On that morning, the doctor had coffee with the patient, her husband, and her adult daughter.
Unbeknownst to the patient, the doctor put a sedative in her coffee.
The woman remained awake and a second sedative was administered via an intravenous drip.
The doctor began to administer the lethal injection but the woman woke up and her family was forced to restrain her to allow for the final injection..."

Could this happen here? Today?-----Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the Final Solution in Poland

Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the Final Solution in Poland by [Christopher R. Browning]Amazon.com: Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the Final Solution in Poland eBook: Browning, Christopher R.: Kindle Store
“...shocking account of how a unit of average middle-aged Germans became the cold-blooded murderers of tens of thousands of Jews...
...Browning argues that most of the men of RPB 101 were not fanatical Nazis but, rather, ordinary middle-aged, working-class men who committed these atrocities out of a mixture of motives...
Very quickly three groups emerged within the battalion:
  • a core of eager killers
  • a plurality who carried out their duties reliably but without initiative, and
  • a small minority who evaded participation in the acts of killing without diminishing the murderous efficiency of the battalion whatsoever.
While this book discusses a specific Reserve Unit during WWII, the general argument Browning makes is that most people succumb to the pressures of a group setting and commit actions they would never do of their own volition.
Ordinary Men is a powerful, chilling, and important work with themes and arguments that continue to resonate today."
