It is possible that we are about to see what 'the consent of the governed" means in America.

Fans of Best of the Web Today--Michael Smith
"My post yesterday about a possible tax revolt didn't really get to what I was thinking - then I saw this.
It is possible that we are about to see what 'the consent of the governed" means in America.
The insistence by elected officials that they be treated as monarchs by the proles is wearing thin.
Authority is only achievable through two means, consent and force.
These petit dictators are pushing the boundary between consent and force.
The danger for them is that the public withdraws their consent - then they have a choice to make.
The problem for them comes when business owners decide government approval and licensure is of no benefit and is not necessary for their business to continue.
Will the elected officials chose force, and if so, how far are they willing to go?
They clearly can't arrest an entire city, so what's a monarch to do?
If they don't use force, they might lose their authority and if they do, it is assured they will lose consent.
The American people retain the power of choice.
It may be that power is about to be exercised to reveal who and what can truly be classified as "non-essential"."

Mayors and governors in some states most affected by the coronavirus have set up systems to allow Americans to discreetly report one another for breaking social distancing rules.
The new policies are coming down across the country in both red and blue states. Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio set up a hotline for residents to snitch on each other in April. Meanwhile, Kansas City, Missouri is requiring churches to turn over membership lists and report anyone who shows up to attend services. Texas has adopted a similar policy as well.

"At least two people were hauled away by police after law enforcement officers tried to enter a diner that was illegally opened in Fresno, California.
The diners were waiting in line outside the Waffle Shop.
Officers ordered the diners to step aside so they could enter the establishment.
When they refused, the officers forcefully shoved aside patrons.
...The television station reports that diners were socially distanced and staff members wore masks to comply with CDC guidelines.
However, on Friday the owner was slapped with a $1,000 fine.
And the city warns the fines could increase to $10,000.
And a few minutes after the ticket was issued – the restaurant’s water supply slowed to a trickle.
The City of Fresno says it had nothing to do with the water being shut off, Fox26 reports."

"Parts of the document are ambiguous but can be read as requiring incoming guests to answer health-related questions that include: “Do you have ... diarrhea" (excluding diarrhea due to a known medical reason other than COVID-19)?”
“If you answered YES to any of the questions,” the document suggests restaurant staff say to possibly ill customers, “please call and we will prepare a takeout meal for you while you wait in your car.”
Charlie Owens, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, said the likelihood of many small, family-owned restaurants being able to comply with a panoply of new health mandates is close to zero..."

And summer heat is on the way!-----"...we cannot simply believe anything the media is reporting without questioning the veracity of every single statement the make...

Michael Harris
"I have purposely not commented on the current mass hysteria surrounding this shooting.
I am on neither side.
Why?
Because we don't have enough facts yet.
Sadly, we cannot simply believe anything the media is reporting without questioning the veracity of every single statement the make.
They are advocates of hate, chaos, racial, and political segregation for Blacks.
We cannot even believe the 911 call.
It could have been staged and edited by the media or made in false pretense...to set up a justification.
We cannot believe the moms assumption that her son was just out jogging, we need proof...and she was not there.
Nor can we believe the leaked portion of the video as if it tells the entire story.
Other videos have been released.
Some videos are cut, sped up, and others slowed down, edited and narrated falsely.
We saw all of this come to light in Trayvon Martin's case..."

President Donald Trump hinted that Barack Obama and Joe Biden could soon be implicated for their alleged roles in the controversial Russia collusion investigation.
“There’s more to come from what I understand, and they’re going to be far greater than what you’ve seen so far, and what you’ve seen so far is incredible, especially as it relates to President Obama,” Trump said during an appearance Friday on Fox & Friends when discussing Obama’s role in the Russia probe.

The end of Europe-----France's No-Go Zones: The Riots Return

France's No-Go Zones: The Riots Return
  • A few months ago, a police officer, Noam Anouar, who infiltrated Islamist circles... stated that no-go zones in France are now foreign enclaves on French territory. ...They consider themselves at war with France and with Western civilization. They act in cooperation with Islamist organizations, and define acts of predation and rampage as raids against infidels". He noted that reclaiming these areas today would be complicated, costly, and involve calling in the army.
  • For years, successive French governments have chosen a policy of "willful blindness": they simply behave as if they do not see what is going on. They do not even try to find solutions.

While France's general population remains under strict lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic and police have been ordered to enforce the rules ruthlessly, people living in no-go zones are treated differently. Police officers have been told by the government not to stop them at all and to avoid going near where they live. Saturday, April 18, 11 pm. Villeneuve-la-Garenne, a small town in the northern suburbs of Paris.
A young man rides a motorcycle at high speed and hits the door of a police car. He breaks his leg. He is sent to the hospital.
He does not have a driver's license but does have a long criminal history
He was sentenced several times by the courts for drug trafficking, robbery with violence and sexual assault.
As soon as news of the accident is released, hostile messages about the police circulate on social media; and in a dozen cities in France, riots break out.
The riots are continue for five days in a row.
A police station in Strasbourg is attacked and set on fire
A school is nearly destroyed a few miles from Villeneuve-la-Garenne.
Rather than responding with firm language, the French government is saying that an investigation into the behavior of the police has been opened and that the officers will most likely be punished..."

A recent Heritage fact sheet offers a quick summary of the dangers of voting by mail and the necessary safeguards to ensure an election’s integrity. Another Heritage report details how Wisconsin successfully conducted its recent primary election–including in-person voting—and how other countries such as Liberia have conducted an election successfully during a health crisis.
Voting by mail makes it easier to commit fraud, intimidate voters, and destroy the protections of the secret ballot. It puts elections into the hands of the Postal Service. Without the oversight of election and polling officials, ballots can be lost, disqualified, and even stolen.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin warned Sunday of “permanent damage” to the economy without a reopening, arguing that restrictions on businesses can be lifted without a significant risk to public health from the novel coronavirus.
“If we do this carefully, working with the governors, I don’t think there’s a considerable risk,” said Mr. Mnuchin on “Fox News Sunday.” “Matter of fact, I think there’s a considerable risk of not reopening. You’re talking about what would be permanent economic damage to the American public.”
