Meebee cuz obesity is terribly unhealthy?-----WHY IS BODY-SHAMING BAD?

Instapundit--WHY IS BODY-SHAMING BAD?

"‘Fat and lazy’ billboard in Times Square stirs up body shaming controversy.

It can’t be because shaming is bad, because God knows the people denouncing body-shaming are fine with other varieties.

And it can’t be because you can’t change your body, because anyone can.

So there must be another agenda here: “The woke left is composed of ugly people who want to be treated as beautiful people, bad people who want to be treated as good people, stupid people who want to be treated as smart people, and the grifters who profit from the above.”

And judging from the photos accompanying the article, the people condemning the body shaming are pretty much all fat.--Posted by

...The city charter currently requires the city to go through a competitive bidding process and award large contracts for projects such as road and sewer improvements to the “lowest responsible bidder.” The ballot proposal put forward by Council Member Jen Eyer, D-4th Ward, and supported by council asks voters to change that to instead require awarding contracts to “the bidder that provides the best value to the city.”
That would give the city more flexibility to implement a responsible contractor policy approved by council last year and give more consideration to other factors that impact value beyond simply bid price, Eyer said...

Texas Reportedly Unveils Its Own Border Fence That Will 'Cut the Feds Out of the Equation'

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has reportedly launched the construction of his state’s own fence along the southern border in an effort to slow the border crisis and “cut the feds out of the equation.”

“I asked what a chain link fence is going to stop?” Fox L.A. reporter Bill Melugin tweeted on Tuesday. “Texas [Department of Public Safety] tells me the idea is to cut the feds out of the equation. No trespass signs allow them to arrest on local charges. Instead of calling Border Patrol, they will take migrants to jail for violating Texas law.”

The Panic Pandemic | City Journal

The Panic Pandemic | City Journal

"The United States suffered through two lethal waves of contagion in the past year and a half. The first was a viral pandemic that killed about one in 500 Americans—typically, a person over 75 suffering from other serious conditions. The second, and far more catastrophic, was a moral panic that swept the nation’s guiding institutions.

Instead of keeping calm and carrying on, the American elite flouted the norms of governance, journalism, academic freedom—and, worst of all, science...

If, as seems increasingly plausible, the coronavirus that causes Covid-19 leaked out of a laboratory in Wuhan, it is the costliest blunder ever committed by scientists. Whatever the pandemic’s origin, the response to it is the worst mistake in the history of the public-health profession. We still have no convincing evidence that the lockdowns saved lives, but lots of evidence that they have already cost lives and will prove deadlier in the long run than the virus itself.

  • One in three people worldwide lost a job or a business during the lockdowns, and half saw their earnings drop, according to a Gallup poll
  • Children, never at risk from the virus, in many places essentially lost a year of school.
  • The economic and health consequences were felt most acutely among the less affluent in America and in the rest of the world, where the World Bank estimates that more than 100 million have been pushed into extreme poverty...

The panic was started, as usual, by journalists...Read all.

Mainstream corporate media blamed "gun violence."
The more likely culprit is "gang violence."
Police say the shots came from shooters in separate cars firing at each other.
Maybe guns were behind the steering wheels and pulling the triggers.
It's more likely gang members drove the cars and aimed the weapons.

Unsettling the apple cart II: Koonin on climate | Climate Discussion Nexus
"Being a physicist, Koonin notes the strange fact that there are about 40 major computer climate models in the world and they vary quite a bit in the results they produce.
Why “being a physicist”?
Because it means climate models aren’t “just physics” as some defenders claim.
If they were we would only need one since all the models would come to the same conclusion.
And the models don’t just disagree about future warming.
They even disagree about the current average temperature, with the range spanning about 3°C.
That’s three times the observed warming of the 20th century that the models purport to be able to explain. Which doesn’t add up.
And as Koonin dug further into the IPCC reports and the underlying literature he found the problems quickly mounted...Read all.

Senators introduce legislation to curb secret foreign funding of American universities | The College Fix
  • Republican lawmakers introduce new bill to combat foreign influence on college campuses
  • Republican Senators, including Tim Scott of South Carolina and Tom Cotton of Arkansas, have introduced legislation to increase transparency surrounding the money that foreign countries give to American universities.
  • The Foreign Funding Accountability Act would require the disclosure of full names of foreign entities, disclosure of the specific purposes of foreign gift transactions and clarification that gifts to university foundations are not exempt from disclosure.
  • It would also lower the minimum reporting threshold for disclosure—from $250,000 to $25,000.
  • Research finds problems with transparency
  • Multiple investigations have uncovered gaps between money received by universities from foreign entities and the amount reported to authorities.
  • A Wall Street Journal report in 2020 that found Cornell University failed to report more than $1.2 billion in foreign funds, including $760 million related to its campus in Qatar and about $1 million in contracts from Chinese telecom company Huawei Technologies Co.

Che Guevara's Daughter: Cuban Protesters Are 'Low Class'

Aleida Guevara March, daughter of communist mass murderer Ernesto “Che” Guevara, has urged the Cuban Communist Party to enact more violent repressive measures against the thousands of “low-class people” protesting on the island, AmericaTeVe reported on Tuesday.

Guevara, an Argentine-Irish communist who joined Fidel Castro’s small group of violent Marxists in the takeover of the country in 1959, served as economics minister in the early days of the Cuban Revolution. He spearheaded programs to build concentration camps for suspected homosexual Cubans and Christian groups, organized firing squads against political dissidents, and openly boasted to the United Nations that the Revolution intended to kill large numbers of Cuban people.
