Report: 30-Plus California Children Remain Stranded in Afghanistan

More than 30 California children likely remain stranded in Afghanistan, days after President Joe Biden evacuated U.S. forces from the country while abandoning billions of dollars worth of military equipment to the Taliban terrorists.

According to California school board officials in three districts, which confirmed the U.S. legal status of the children to the Associated Press (AP), 30 children “have been forgotten by the U.S. government.”

Michigan releases M-STEP scores: Here's where students fell behind
"Students lagged in nearly every grade and category on state tests taken in the spring of 2021, according to scores released Tuesday by the Michigan Department of Education.
Those scores, and separate data also released from benchmark assessments of students across the state from the previous school year, illustrate just how much learning was interrupted through the pandemic.
...“These new data demonstrate what national research predicted: Michigan’s students have experienced significant unfinished learning during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Amber Arellano, executive director of the Education Trust-Midwest, a nonprofit education advocacy group.
...While the results show more than a quarter of students falling behind grade level, Katharine Strunk, a researcher with EPIC and a professor at MSU's College of Education, said the results don't mean students learned nothing at all last year.

"Students learned through the year in Michigan," she said. "And I think that that's a really critical piece of it. ... But they did not grow in their learning as much as might have been predicted in a typical year."

A School Movement Targeting Minorities That Works. But Progressives Don't Like It. | RealClearInvestigations
"Michael Landsbaum hit bottom after his father lost his job and couldn’t pay rent, leaving the teenager homeless in Dallas.
He slept on friends’ couches for months until he was rescued by an unlikely source: his high school.
But Pathways in Technology Early College High School
did much more than provide him with a place to stay at a counselor’s home.
Its accelerated program, including college courses, gave Landsbaum the drive to get through the tough times and the hope for better days.
“My goal was to get my associate’s degree, and when I got that, things got a whole lot easier,” he says.
Landsbaum, 20, is finishing his bachelor’s in computer science at the University of North Texas – a turnaround that’s typical of the school, part of a growing movement better known by its acronym P-TECH.
Founded in 2011 by IBM and the Bloomberg administration in New York City, P-TECH has spread to 10 states with 127 schools as of last year, achieving remarkable results for the low-income, black and Latino students they serve.
In Dallas, for example, 72% of students graduated with a high school diploma and an associate’s degree in about four years.
...P-TECH's success offers a counterpoint to critical race theory, a controversial academic movement increasingly adopted in schools that casts “systemic racism” and white supremacy as pervasive problems that students can counteract through racial awareness.
P-TECH is showing that underperforming students from poor communities can master a race-neutral mainstream STEM curriculum, especially when they see a brighter future, in the form of a well-paying job, within their grasp.
...That’s about eight times the national average for on-time community college graduation by students of color...Read all!

My 19 yo son ran his own pressure washing/handyman business this summer. One day he stopping into Popeyes for a chicken sandwich and the manager offered him a job on the spot. $23/hr starting. The manager said, “my people don’t know how to work and you look like you do.” Apparently they wanted some perfectionism and punctuality at Popeyes.

If you believe that minorities are capable of progress, you are a nazi.
If you believe that minorities can't find a location to cast a vote, are incapable of passing in high school, just need to express themselves by rioting, and should be allowed to have a good old knife fight, you are woke.

NYC Man Free On Bail From Gun Charges Commits Fatal Shooting
"New York City is famous for its incredibly strict gun control laws.
Getting a gun is difficult if you’re a law-abiding citizen, which we’re told makes it even more difficult for criminals to get firearms.
      Yet, that’s not really true.
We know it’s not true because of the amount of crime New York City is currently experiencing.
These aren’t law-abiding citizens shooting up the streets, after all.
And what about those gun laws?
Well, a recent homicide illustrates just how beautifully those laws don’t work.

"Mitigating the impact of online extremism has proven a complicated task for companies that want to protect free expression.
Social media companies have struggled to moderate hate speech and adapt to changes in how white supremacists spread their views on digital platforms.
Libby Hemphill, an associate professor at the University of Michigan School of Information, believes machine learning technology might provide an answer.
We know that white supremacists and other types of extremists use social media to talk to each other, to recruit, to try to get their message to go mainstream,” Hemphill said.
“The challenge has been that the platforms haven’t really stepped up to fight hate on their platforms.”...Read all.
