GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- Local activists held a march on Saturday afternoon, April 9, in response to the death of Patrick Lyoya, 26, who was killed during a traffic stop by a Grand Rapids police officer five days earlier.
Hundreds of supporters, starting at nonprofit Amplify GR’s offices, marched through the city’s Boston Square neighborhood with members of Lyoya’s family.
The Lyoya family left the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2014 to come to the United States to escape the violence there.
“I knew that they came to America it was going to be safe, and there’s no safety here,” Lyoya said...link

Public Schools’ New Critical Race Theory Window Dressing: Social-Emotional Learning
"Progressives in public education establishments nationwide are packaging the tenets of critical race theory into a concept they call social-emotional learning.
In Michigan, teachers unions and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Michigan Department of Education are advancing an effort that incorporates the progressive project of indoctrinating students into accepting claims of institutional racism under the banner of student mental health and wellness.
The Michigan Department of Education has created its own social-emotional learning website stating, “MDE feels Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)” is critical “to support the healthy, safety and wellness of all students.”...Read all.

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg joined Joy Behar, Sara Haines, and Ana Navarro on 'The View" this week to talk about Florida’s new “Parental Rights in Education” law — which he absurdly claimed "will kill kids" — before going on to add inflation and high gas prices to his list of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' crimes.

Of course, you need to spend a certain amount, but at a certain point, the reverse is true.

"...If you have gas money, plane or train fare, or the time to walk, you can go wherever you want.
But this freedom is under a bit of an attack.
 Let me explain.
  • Big government planners, those that want to run most of your lives, envision a US where the majority of the population lives within its large cities, or suburbs of them.
  • Where personal transportation isn’t needed or desirable. Movement is limited to public transportation methods: bus, commuter train, trolley, subway, etc.
Under the guise of ‘lowering carbon emissions’, these folks would love to limit autos (and maybe even plane travel) to the very important and very wealthy (them)...Read all.

'Red Dawn': A Movie for Our Time - Intellectual Takeout  link

"The other day I was revisiting the 1984 flick Red Dawn when I had one of those revelations that leave me feeling a bit stupid and more than a bit stunned.

The film’s storyline is pretty simple: It’s the Cold War, and Russia, Cuba, and Nicaragua launch an attack on the United States....

As I rewatched Red Dawn, so many scenes matched the circumstances of the last few years that the movie seemed almost prophetic in its message.

What if we are now undergoing our own “Red Dawn,” except this is an invasion without machine guns and war planes, but with the same ideas of destruction and conquest of the American Republic in mind?..."

Dallas Airport Deploys Giant Robots to Catch Unmasked Travelers

As air travel is getting back to pre-pandemic levels and airports are getting busy, travelers are still having to mask.

While many public areas are getting more lax about masks, the Dallas Love Field airport now has robots watching travelers.

“Yes, those 7-foot-tall machines at Dallas Love Field are watching you. They want to make sure you’re wearing a mask if you’re boarding a flight or not parking too long at the curb if you’re picking up a returning traveler,” The Dallas Morning News reported Friday.

"Following the death of Stalin, the Soviet secret police pivoted from heavy-handed mass arrests to a subtler, but still sinister, system of mass spying and accumulation of “kompromot,” or compromising material, on its citizens.
The Soviets maintained control by prioritizing spying on religious figures, political activists, journalists, and public officials.
We’re now finding out that the FBI in America has a similar program of mass surveillance of similar targets.
And, as with the Soviets, much of the spying has nothing to do with investigating crime.
  • According to a Justice Department internal audit report, the FBI maintained an active caseload of 24,584 cases during the 18 months between January 2018 and June of 2019. A grossly disproportionate share of those cases involved surveillance of influential Americans such as candidates for office, public officials, journalists, religious leaders, and political activists. When the FBI targets an individual wielding high social influence, it categorizes the case as “sensitive.”

  • Bonhoeffer on the ‘Stupidity’ That Led to Hitler’s Rise
  • Americans today might do well to heed Bonhoeffer’s warning.
"Although he was in power for only a handful of years, Hitler and his Nazi government slaughtered millions.
One of the more well-known victims of that slaughter was Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who was executed on April 8th, 1945, a few short weeks before Hitler’s own death.
Unlike many of Hitler’s victims, Bonhoeffer was not a Jew, but a Lutheran minister, scholar, and theologian who boldly spoke against Hitler’s policies.
Bonhoeffer landed a position in the German government during WWII and subsequently used that position as cover for assassination attempts against Hitler.
While awaiting execution, Bonhoeffer recorded a number of his thoughts in a work we now know as Letters and Papers from Prison
One of these essays, entitled On Stupidity, records some of the problems which Bonhoeffer likely saw at work in Hitler’s rise to power...Read all!!
