What is common to the pandemic of smash-and-grab, carjacking, fighting on airliners while in flight, and deadly Saturday night shoot-outs is this same apparent assurance there will be no consequences.
That expectation of exemption is why the Antifa thugs in Atlanta were so bold in their latest violent attacks on the police...

There have been 67 total MVP awards handed out by the NBA. Of the 67, over 80% of the award recipients have been black. Since 2010, the award has been given to a white player twice, both to Serbian player Nikola Jokic.

• Maybe it was to buy time so that personal protective equipment and ventilators could be stockpiled and yet we later found that the ventilators killed many unnecessarily while stockpiles later sold for pennies on the dollar.
• Or maybe it was to wait for a vaccine. That was the word on the street. Certainly vaccines had been in development since January 2020 if not earlier. One was coming. And the companies themselves clearly had huge influence on the regulatory agencies that later approved them and mandated their products through unusual means.

But the story is not entirely clear...

• Columbia's Class of 2025's demographic mix is 54% white, 28% Asian, 20% Hispanic, 18% black, and 4% native American. Note the >100% tally, which reflects both the classification of Hispanics as "white" and the ability to choose more than one of these categories.
• For the purposes of comparison, the US is 59% white-not-Hispanic, 19% Hispanic, 14% black, 6% Asian, and 1% native American. 3% report as multi-racial.

If Columbia's goal is to overweight minorities, it has succeeded...
So, why the big change in the admissions policy? Why eliminate a standardized metric?
Two words: Supreme Court...

It would cost billions, up to $30 billion by one estimate, just in the DTE area. 

When one solution costs millions and the other costs billions, thinking small makes sense. 

But thinking small got us here.
