Joshua Levy, acting U.S. attorney for Massachusetts, said investigators believe hundreds of people — at the very least — purchased sex in the high-end ring.

"They are doctors, they are lawyers, they are accountants, they are elected officials, they are executives of high tech companies and pharmaceutical companies, they are military officers, government contractors [with security clearances], professors, scientists," he said.

In Wyoming, cheap electricity is gone with the wind | Blaze Media

Who needs cheap natural fuel when you can have expensive and inefficient wind power?

Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Rocky Mountain Power, the state’s largest utility company, announced the nearly 30% hike in rates due to rising costs. Residents responded with outrage. They had thought, with good reason, that the state’s abundance of resources would shield them from the national trend. The state’s Public Service Commission is expected to vote on whether to sign off on the increase later this month.

Protesters take over, shut down Chicago City Council meeting regarding sanctuary city status | Blaze Media

Hundreds of protesters filled city hall to voice their opinions about some members' efforts to block a referendum that would allow residents to vote on whether Chicago should remain a sanctuary city. Residents also expressed their frustrations regarding the city spending millions of taxpayer dollars to provide shelter and other services to migrants. The City Council Rules Committee quickly lost control of the crowd as residents shouted over aldermen.

The Tribute to a Little-Known Soldier | The Free Press - By Joe Nocera
  • A small plaque to a young veteran in a New York park tells a very American story of sacrifice.
"...In 1996 the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation added another war memorial in Bennett Park, this one dedicated to the memory of a man—a kid, really—who had grown up in the neighborhood and had been killed during World War II.
His name was Emilio Barbosa.
The inscription said that he was a native of Nicaragua who had lived on Pinehurst Avenue, a street that borders the west side of the park.
At 17 he joined the Marines and spent the next two years manning a 20mm gun turret on the USS Nevada, fighting first at Normandy Beach and then in the Pacific theater.
He died at the age of 19, when a Japanese kamikaze pilot flew into the Nevada as she bombarded Okinawa.
Barbosa’s small plaque, low to the ground and under a tree, is easy to miss.
But I’ve found myself lingering over it from time to time, wondering about the man it honors—imagining, for instance, how terrifying it must have been as that Japanese plane closed in on him...

Veterans Day 2023: Founding, Fact & Meaning | HISTORY

...Armistice Day

The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, marking the official end of World War I. Nonetheless, the armistice date of November 11, 1918, remained in the public imagination as the date that marked the end of the conflict.

  • One year later, in November 1919, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day. The day’s observation included parades and public gatherings, as well as a brief pause in business and school activities at 11 a.m.
  • On November 11, 1921, an unidentified American soldier killed in the war was buried at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington, D.C. On the same day the previous year, unidentified soldiers were laid to rest at Westminster Abbey in London and at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

Did you know? Red poppies, a symbol of World War I from their appearance in the beloved poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae, are sold in Canada and the United Kingdom on Remembrance Day to raise money for veterans or worn in the lapel as a tribute...
